Abstract:
A patient support apparatus includes a patient support structure, such as a bed frame or mattress or both, that is configured to support a patient in a recumbent position. The patient support structure is configured to provide at least one therapy to a patient. A therapy enabler token is coupleable to the patient support structure. The at least one therapy is disabled when the therapy enabler token is decoupled from the patient support structure and the at least one therapy is enabled in response to the therapy enabler token being coupled to the patient support structure.
Abstract:
A system and process including a transponder and a hand-held transducer having a pulse delivery assembly and a sound pressure wave generating device driven by an electronics package. The electronics package is capable of outputting prerecorded programs, to the sound pressure wave generating device, upon receiving an instruction from the transponder. The electronics package responds to instructions by retrieving a labeled and stored prerecorded audio program and driving the sound pressure wave generating device. The sound pressure wave generating device is mechanically linked to a pulse delivery assembly having a hammer pad with attached permanent magnets. The pulse delivery assembly vibrates the hammer pad, which administers therapeutic patterned percussive pulses and a patterned fluctuating magnetic field through direct contact on the skin of a subject, according to the prerecorded program. Upon being disposed proximate to the electronics package, the transponder is configured to automatically establish communication and provide the instruction.
Abstract:
Continuous passive body motion is efficiently and effectively treated by a therapy device which includes at least one movable body carrying element which is driven by a controlled motion drive to produce the desired movement. The motion drive controller includes at least data reading element which cooperates with a program data media to provide individualized control of the therapy device. This individual control will be specifically adapted for each particular patient, thus allowing therapy to occur without the need for operators.
Abstract:
A vascular treatment apparatus, comprising a chair, a horizontal housing and a retractable cover. The cover has hot and cold fluid dispensers whereby alternating and pulsating sprays of hot fluid and cold fluid treat a patient. The housing section also includes hot and cold fluid dispensers. The temperature, pulse strength and pulse rate are controlled by a central processing unit. The central process unit also correlates patient information for observing patient progress and comparing with other patients. Skin conditioner and disinfectant dispensers are included. The chair swivels for easy patient entry. The inventive method includes, alternating pulsing streams of hot and cold fluid, preferably alternating 3 seconds of hot fluid with 3 seconds of cold fluid. The hot fluid is between 32 degrees centigrade and 41 degrees centigrade, and the treatment duration is approximately 25 minutes. Preferably, before treatment, the temperature of the hot fluid is gradually raised.
Abstract:
A method for preventing osteopenia, promoting bone tissue growth, ingrowth, and healing of bone tissue includes the step of applying a mechanical load to the bone tissue at a relatively low level on the order of between about 50 and about 500 microstrain, peak-to-peak, and at a relatively high frequency in the range of about 10 and about 50 hertz. Mechanical loading at such strain levels and such frequencies has been found to prevent bone loss and enhance new bone formation.
