    摘要: A segmented female die for use in a closed die set comprising a pair of similar center segments and a pair of similar "half moon" shaped outside segments. The four segments also define the ejector pin opening. The die segments are prevented from relative motion between themselves by interlocks comprising closely mating protrusions and guideways which, in cooperation with other means, produce a rigid female die. The interlocks permit the use of relatively simple manufacturing techniques such as grinding as opposed to more sophisticated techniques such as electrical discharge machining.

    摘要: A presently-preferred process for manufacturing a connecting rod comprises placing a heated preform suitable for being formed into the connecting rod into a closed forge die, and forging the preform in a first forging operation while the preform is at a forging temperature to form an as-forged connecting rod having vertical flash extending therefrom. The presently-preferred process further comprises placing the as-forged connecting rod in a second forge die while the as-forged connecting rod is at a temperature substantially equal to the forging temperature, and forging the vertical flash in a second forging operation. The presently-preferred process also comprises removing the as-forged connecting rod from the second forge die, and machining the as-forged connecting rod to predetermined dimensions.

    摘要: A method of operating a forging press having a plurality of tool stages between which workpieces are advanced in succession. Each tool has two identical dies with a center-to-center spacing of half the stroke of a transporter for advancing the workpieces from stage to stage so that in each stage during each forging stroke of the press only one die is in contact with the workpiece while the other die is unused and in the next working stroke, the unused die engages the workpiece and the previously used die is unused. The result is a minimization of the contact time of workpieces with any given die and hence an increase in the life of the dies for a given press output or enhanced output of the press with equal or reduced die wear.
