A brake-equipped swivel caster comprises a movable pin allowed to move up and down and normally retained in its uppermost position by an elastic member, and a bifurcated brake member including two downward-extending brake pieces, arranged with its top adjacent to the lower end of the movable pin and rotatably suspended by a horizontal shaft fitted to a tired-wheel support leg at a position off the axis of the movable pin. The brake member is subjected to the force of an elastic member tending to cause the brake member to turn in a direction away from the opposite lateral rim edges of a tired wheel, and is thereby retained in a non-braking condition. When the movable pin pushed down a specified distance pushes on the top of the brake member, the brake member turns so that the two brake pieces are pressed against the opposite lateral rim edges.

The current invention is a non motorized cart for use on rugged terrain, operated by one or more persons, comprising a single wheel with a brake attached to the wheel housing of a rigid frame. The frame additionally comprises a posteriorly positioned primary steering and lifting handgrip, and an anteriorly positioned supplementary assistance lifting handgrip. The frame additionally provides multiple detachable connections for various interchangeable load bearing platforms, which can be easily interchanged in the field, without tools. The frame additionally provides an attachment point for supplemental sources of motive power. Additional features include an electronic odometer and a self contained electrical storage system.

A brake system for a wheelbarrow includes a plurality of elongate mounting brackets having opposed end portions connected to the frame of the wheelbarrow and an axle passing through the wheel, respectively, so that the plurality of mounting brackets become disposed on opposite sides of the wheel. The brake system further includes a plurality of levers including first end portions pivotally connected to the plurality of mounting brackets, respectively. The plurality of levers further include second end portions disposed rearwardly from the first end portions, respectively. A plurality of brake pads are connected to the plurality of levers and extend inwardly towards opposed sides of the wheel, respectively. A brake handle is connected to the frame and a cable mechanism cooperates with the brake handle for causing the plurality of brake pads to engage and disengage the wheel as the plurality of brake levers are pivoted outwardly and inwardly, respectively.

Fold flat walking or jogging strollers, as well as various fold flat cargo carrier devices are disclosed, which include at least three wheels which may have pivoting wheel support units and alternative foldable support frame embodiments are disclosed. The wheel support units include, in various embodiments, simple manually manipulable methods to latch each wheel in the operative or stowed flat positions, which effectively allows the device to fold to a flat profile without any part or wheel being detached. Associated innovations include a unique forward wheel folding system, a pivoting or floating transverse axle replicating unit (nullfalse axlenull), which pivots and latches to replicate a typical fixed wheel axle, but conveniently pivots to a fold flat stowed position. The innovations may also be applied to miscellaneous other types of wheeled carrier devices besides strollers, such as gurneys, golf bag carriers, and hunting game carriers as several examples, and also parking brake and alternative latch release methods are disclosed.

A braking device for a wheelchair having at least one wheel and a frame having siderails adjacent the wheel is provided with a brake assembly surrounding the wheel for clamping and braking the motion of the wheel and with a connecting and mounting assembly connected to the brake assembly which mounts the brake assembly onto the siderail forward of the wheel and positions the brake assembly forward of the wheel parallel to and aligned with the axis of rotation of the wheel. Also provided is a brake actuating member connected to the mounting assembly which actuates the brake member. Still further, a locking member is provided adjacent the brake actuating member for locking the actuating member in position when the brake member is clamped to the wheel. The invention also discloses a structure for braking and clamping two wheels of a wheelchair with one brake actuating member.

An auxiliary wheelchair braking apparatus includes a bracket adapted to be affixed to the frame of the wheelchair proximate each primary wheel thereof and utilizes caliper type braking device disposed on the bracket, one arm of the calipers being disposed on either side of the primary wheel. Activating levers are disposed proximate the backrest of the wheelchair for easy access by the elbows of the person making use thereof. Each of the activating levers are operatively coupled to the braking device for activation thereof. Pressure exerted on the activating levers forces the braking device to come into contact with the primary wheels responsive to the amount of pressure exerted on the activating lever.
