    摘要: Systems and methods are described that facilitate correcting for paper process direction arrival errors during a print job in a marker module of a print engine. Paper sheet arrival time is determined at a first registration point in a print engine or marker module thereof, and an average arrival time is compared to an expected arrival time to determine whether the pages are arriving on time, early, or late. The arrival time error is used to generate or look up a correction factor, which is added to an expected arrival time at a second registration point in the marker module or print engine to generate an updated expected arrival time. Print engine control parameters (e.g., sheet feeder timing, toner application, paper path speed, etc.) are adjusted according to the updated expected arrival time at the second registration point.

    摘要: A method of measuring a thickness of a sheet being conveyed on a transport path includes rotating a substantially cylindrical reference surface disposed in the transport path and engaging a probe with the reference surface to determine a runout value for each of a set of positions along a circumference of the reference surface. The method further includes conveying the sheet on the transport path so that the sheet contacts the reference surface at one position of the set, engaging the probe with the sheet at the one position to determine a measured sheet thickness value, and adjusting the measured sheet thickness value based on the runout value for the one position to obtain an actual sheet thickness value.

    摘要: Apparatus and method for counting the number of inserts pulled each cycle from each hopper of an inserting machine. The caliper is a precision mechanism for accurately counting single, double, triple, quadruple and even quintuple fed inserts as well as misses. The caliper system compensates for a wide range of variables and countered in conventional newspaper inserting machines operating at 400 cycles per minute. The set-up of the caliper system is highly simplified due to the system software which, in addition to while proving a learn zero and learn insert mode, further recognizes operational variables which occur during operations such as fluctuation of paper basis weight and ink build up on the caliper wheel. The system provides self-checks to verify operational accuracy.

    摘要: A sheet discriminating apparatus including a light emitter for emitting light onto a sheet being transported, a light receiver for detecting an amount of light transmitted through the sheet and a sheet discriminator for discriminating a specified kind of the sheet from others and/or abnormal feed of sheets based upon the amount of light transmitted through the sheet detected by the light receiver, the sheet discriminator including an average value calculator for calculating an average value of the amount of light transmitted through the sheet detected by the light receiver at a predetermined time intervals, a reference data calculator for calculating and storing a reference data based upon the average value of the amount of light transmitted through a preceding sheet to the sheet to be discriminated stored in the average value calculator, and an average data comparator for comparing the average value of the amount of light transmitted through the sheet calculated in the average value calculator with the reference data calculated by the reference data calculator and discriminating the specified kind of sheet from others and/or abnormal feed. The thus constituted apparatus can discriminate whether or not sheets are of a specified kind and/or whether or not abnormal feed of sheets such as double feed occurs for various kind of sheets.
