    摘要: In an optical communication system that communicates between an optical line terminal (OLT) and a plurality of optical network units (ONU), an ONU can decide an operation time period of communicating with the OLT and an idle time period of reduced or suspended communication with the OLT by using a timer. The OLT can decide a software renewal time period based on the operation time period and the idle time period. Accordingly, the ONU can supply electrical power to its own communication circuit during the operation time period or the software renewal time period, or cut off or reduce the electrical power if a present time does not occur in either the operation time period or the software renewal time period.

In the passive optical network system, an OLT (200) and a plurality of ONUes (300) are connected by an optical fiber network including an optical splitter (100) and a plurality of optical fibers (110 and 120). The OLT (200) indicates to the ONUes (300) the wavelength to be used, in addition to the timing for transmission to the ONUes (300). A format for signal transmission from the OLT (200) to the ONUes (300) comprises both the region, in which the timing for transmission to the ONUes (300) indicated by the OLT (200) to the ONUes (300) is stored, and the region, by which the wavelength to be used in the communication in the direction from the OLT (200) to the ONUes (300) is indicated.

    摘要: An Optical Line Termination (OLT) system in a multi-wavelength Passive Optical Network (PON) includes a protection port for protecting a set of OLT ports without the use of a physical switch. The protection port has a tunable transceiver. The OLT system detects a failure of one of the OLT ports, which was originally adapted to transmit downstream traffic to a subset of ONUs on a downstream wavelength and to receive upstream traffic from the subset of ONUs on an upstream wavelength. In response to the detection, the OLT system tunes the protection port to the downstream wavelength for transmission and to the upstream wavelength for reception, and resumes communication between the OLT system and the subset of ONUs through the protection port instead of the OLT port.
