摘要： An anti-thrust seating system and low profile, adjustable back system primarily intended for use in a wheelchair. The anti-thrust seating system includes a base seating member with a forward section to support the user's thighs and a rearward section to support the user's buttocks including the ischial tuberosities. The upper surfaces of the forward and rearward sections meet to form an edge extending across the base seating member. The upper surface of the rearward section has two portions which form a first step face or anti-thrust barrier to the user's ischial tuberosities. The seating system further includes at least one separate step means that can be removably positioned adjacent and rearwardly of the first step face wherein the separate step means has a second step face. The separate step means also has an upper surface which serves to effectively extend the thigh supporting surface or shelf rearwardly. The adjustable back system has first and second relatively rigid shell members with a back cushion removably attached to the second or forward shell member. In their retracted positions, portions of both the first and second shell members and cushion extend between and along the back posts of the wheelchair and very little of the back extends forward of the back posts.

摘要： An anti-thrust seating system and low profile, adjustable back system primarily intended for use in a wheelchair. The anti-thrust seating system includes a base seating member with a forward section to support the user's thighs and a rearward section to support the user's buttocks including the ischial tuberosities. 摘要： An inflatable bladder is defined by two superimposed outer sheets of heat-sealable synthetic plastic fused together about their peripheral edges. An Intermediate layer or baffle is disposed between the two outer sheets and is alternately sealed to one and the other of the outer sheets to form air cells on the opposite sides of the intermediate layer. Each of the air cells is defined by an opposed surfaces on one side of the intermediate layer and of one of the outer sheets and adjacent seals which fuse together the layer and each sheet. The seals which define the cells on one outer surface of the bladder are offset from the seals which define the cells on the other surface of the bladder. Opposite surface portions of the intermediate layer are coated with a barrier layer to prevent heat-sealing on each side of the intermediate layer opposite the seals on the other side which form the cells whereby the bladder and the cells thereof may all be formed simultaneously in one heat-sealing operation.

摘要： A damped waterbed mattress includes an envelope or bladder made of vinyl or other flexible, nonporous elastomeric material and which contains a plurality of modular internal "cells" that are in intentionally restricted fluid communication with one another. These cells are themselves partitioned into at least an inner and an outer chamber that are, likewise, in restricted or metered fluid communication with each other. The top of each cell preferably includes a lighter-than-water portion, such as a small sheet of foam, while the bottom of each cell preferably includes a heavier portion, such as a heavier gauge of vinyl. Thus the cells, along with the chambers contained therein, are filled with water upon the filling of the waterbed proper, and are maintained in their filled and expanded state by virtue of the positive buoyancy of their top surfaces and the more negative buoyancy of their bottom surfaces. The chambers and cells are formed by placing hollow dies whose inner surface and opposing edges are covered by a vinyl band between vinyl sheets, bonding and collapsing one side of the chamber or cell through the hollow cavity of the die.

摘要： A waterbed mattress is provided with a series of unitary baffles each comprising a web joined at opposite ends to circular attachment flanges. A floating die of substantially cylindrical form surrounds the central web during the welding process in which substantially flat parts of the welding machine close about top and bottom mattress layers with the baffle and floating die in position. A narrow axially extending slit in the die allows the die to be removed after the baffle is attached. After all baffles are suitably positioned, the mattress layers are closed.

摘要： Apparatus and method are disclosed which pertain to inflatable structures useful as air beds and the like. Shape and load control are facilitated by a plurality of bladders that are located within an inflatable chamber of the structure and are joined to opposed imperforate walls thereof. The bladders are provided with vents which lend to the interior of the chamber, and upon inflation of the structure and resultant separation of the opposed walls of the chamber, the bladders are caused to extend from a flattened state, become filled with the fluid used for inflating the structure, and assume a roughly cylindrical convoluted configuration. Being made of a flexible, substantially non-extensible material, such a vinyl plastics, there is a limit to which the bladders can extend, and further vertical separation or lateral shifting of the attached opposed walls is thereby restrained. When the bladders are provided with vents, they "breathe" when a physical load is applied to the inflated structure or removed from it, hence, regulating resiliency by means of an "air spring" effect.
