摘要： A machine for cutting and stacking into layers sheets of a pre-established size from a plurality of strips of wood obtained from a piece of veneer. The pieces of veneer are fed into a cutter by means of a first conveyor belt actuated by a control means which detects flaws in the wood to cut out transverse strips containing the flaws that are then automatically discarded as they come off the cutter. Strips free from defects are then sent on by a second conveyor belt to a deflector which distributes the strips onto two conveyor belts with intermittent movement so as to arrange the strips into compact adjacent groups to form a sheet of desired length. The plurality of adjacent strips forming a sheet are then sent to stackers to form layers of the sheets.

摘要： A cutter apparatus is disclosed for cutting elongated food products such as french fry potato strips, to cut them in two or to remove defects. The cutter apparatus includes two independently operated knives which are actuated by pneumatic cylinders controlled by solenoid valves that apply air pulses to such cylinders for fast operation. The valves are operated in response to control signals produced by light sensor means which senses the defect and causes a central processing unit of a computer to produce the control signals. The knife blades are each connected to the piston rod of the cylinder by a flexible resilient connector for causing the blade to move in a non-linear manner downward in response to linear movement of the piston rod for cutting the defect from the food product while such product is moving along a conveyor belt beneath such cutter, without arresting movement of the food product. The knife blade is returned to a raised static position by a rubber band strap member secured to the lower end of the piston rod. Two independently controlled knives are employed to enable the cutter to remove defects of different lengths with little waste or to cut product to different lengths.

摘要： An apparatus and method is provided for bucksawing a log while the log is being directed in an endwise, downstream direction along a path of travel. The apparatus includes: (1) a saw for sawing the log; (2) apparatus for displacing the saw into and out of the path of log travel to effect cutting of the log; (3) a clamp for releasably gripping the log; (4) apparatus for reciprocating the saw and the clamp along the path of log travel; and (5) a control including apparatus for causing the saw to be displaced into the path of log travel only when the saw is traveling at the same velocity as the log, apparatus for causing the clamp to grip the log only when the clamp is traveling at the log velocity and for causing the clamp to release the log after a cut has been effected, and apparatus for causing the reciprocating apparatus to accelerate the saw and the clamp in a downstream direction up to the log velocity for sawing the log, and then causing the reciprocating apparatus to index the saw means and the clamp means back in an upstream direction after the clamp has released the cut log. The method aspect of the invention includes the steps of feeding a log to be cut in an endwise, downstream path of travel, accelerating a log clamp and a saw along the path of log travel, clamping the log with the log clamp when the speed of the log, the log clamp and the saw are the same, displacing the saw into the log once the log is clamped to cut the log, retracting the saw once the cut has been completed, unclamping the now-cut log, and indexing the log clamp and the saw back in an upstream direction in preparation for the next cutting operation.

摘要： An arrangement for controlling the advancing device of a machine for repetitive operations, especially for controlling the advancing speed of a slide carrying a cutting device of a cutting machine for cutting an elongated workpiece, such as a profile emanating at a predetermined speed from an extrusion press, a straightening machine or the like, into sections of uniform length. The arrangement performs the steps of preaccelerating the slide before a front end of the workpiece hits an abutment located on the slide in the path of the front end of the workpiece to a speed smaller than the speed at which the workpiece advances, and accelerating the speed of the slide to the speed of the workpiece upon engagement of the front end of the workpiece with the abutment, and subsequently thereto actuating the cutting device, whereby the impact force of the workpiece on the abutment is reduced, so that buckling of the workpiece upon impact on the abutment is prevented and the accuracy of the cutting operation is increased.
