摘要: A repeating pipetting device includes an elongated housing, a flange holder at one end of the housing for holding the flange of a syringe, a coupling assembly for connection to the plunger of the syringe, and a toothed rack connected to the coupling assembly and longitudinally reciprocable relative to the flange holder. A pawl is engageable with the teeth of the rack and is operable to advance the rack toward the flange holder in a succession of steps. An operating lever movable back and forth in the elongated direction of the housing, intermittently operates the pawl, and a return lever retracts the rack from the flange holder. A tongue-like cover or slide is provided within the device and covers the rack for a part of its length. The cover is slidably adjustable along the rack and has a portion engageable by the pawl which limits the extent to which the rack can be advanced by the pawl in each step.

摘要: A structural column (10) for use in the assembly of a framework (12) for a building (14) includes an outer member (16) constructed from a plurality of very thin sheets of wood material laminated together, and an inner member (18) also constructed from a plurality of very thin sheets of wooden material laminated together. Outer member (16) is composed of two substantially identical, preformed halves (20) bonded together along their longitudinal marginal shoulder portions (22) to form a closed cross-sectional shape. Correspondingly inner member 18 is constructed from two substantially identical, preformed halves 30 bonded together along their longitudinal marginal shoulder portions (31) to form a closed cross-sectional shape snugly fitting within the hollow interior of outer member (16). The marginal shoulder portions (22) and (31) may be arcuate to form rounded corners with the marginal shoulder portion of the other half of the corresponding outer and inner members, or the shoulder portions may be planar and disposed diagonally to the adjacent sections of the outer and inner members to cooperatively form a continuous, planar, diagonal corner with the shoulder portion of the corresponding opposite outer or inner member.

摘要: Tread plates on mutually opposed endless belts clamp and move a pack of boards horizontally lengthwise between electrodes for setting adhesive between the boards by dielectric heating. The tread plates are engaged by backing members spaced transversely of the length of the belt, and the tread plates are connected by a chain located between the backing members. The portions of the tread plates engageable with a surface of the board pack are of a suitable plastic to deter passage of radio-frequency energy from an electrode to an electrically-grounded portion of a tread plate or to the chain. Air bags are inflatable to press at least one endless belt against the board pack or to move such belt relative to supporting means away from the board pack. Adjusting means for prepressing rollers ahead of the endless tread belts on one side of the board pack and adjusting means for the endless tread belt on the same side of the board pack are interconnected for synchronized adjustment. A plurality of pivoted pressure rollers spaced lengthwise of the path of movement of the board pack ahead of the endless belts for engaging the board edges are connected by chains to synchronize them for conjoint movement toward and away from the sides of the board pack. Such rollers can be profiled to hold the boards of the pack in relatively offset relationship if desired. Also, the endless belts can be curved to bend the pack of boards lengthwise.

摘要: A composite wood veneer article having a lower layer of wood veneer having a grain orientation generally in a first direction and an upper layer of wood veneer having a grain orientation generally in the first direction. At least two layers of wood veneer are interposed between the upper and lower layers. At least one of the interposed layers has a grain orientation offset from the first direction by about 10.degree. to 25.degree., preferably about 15.degree. to 20.degree.. Adjacent layers of the wood veneer are adhesively bonded in generally surface to surface relationship to each other.In one embodiment, both interposed layers have grain orientations offset from the first direction by about 10.degree. to 25.degree.. The interposed offset layers may be offset on opposite sides of the first direction. In another embodiment, the article may have three interposed layers with one of the three having a grain orientation generally in the first direction. In another embodiment, four interposed layers may be provided, and all four interposed layers may be offset at an angle of about 10.degree. to 25.degree.. Adjacent interposed offset layers are preferably offset on opposite sides of the first direction.

摘要: Plywood is made by continuously propelling a liquid plywood glue in unfoamed condition at a predetermined flow rate, continuously foaming the glue as it is propelled, and continuously extruding or otherwise applying the foamed glue to the surface of a plurality of wood veneers. The flow rate of the unfoamed and foamed glue is maintained substantially the same on a unit weight of liquid glue per unit time basis. The veneers then are laid up into a plywood assembly and pressed, whereupon the pressure breaks the foam and unites the veneers. The method is applicable generally to the production of laminar products by the application of a foamed liquid to a solid surface.

摘要: A method and apparatus for fabricating a decorative sheet or panel by bonding a plurality of veneer sheets to one face of a rigid backing sheet over an intervening layer of an adhesive coating the latter. Stacks of veneers to be adhered to successive backing sheets are held in side-by-side relationship on the movable bottoms of their respective repositories defined by parallel partitions within a rectangular frame. This frame as well as the movable bottoms of the repositories are mounted on a platform which also is moved up and down by first lift means provided therebelow. In operation, the frame is elevated by the first lift means into contact with each backing sheet supported horizontally by an overhead conveyor. Second lift means mounted on the platform is then set in motion to move the stacks of veneers upwardly relative to the frame until the uppermost veneers of the respective stacks are stuck to the lower face of the backing sheet over the layer of adhesive previously coated thereon. Thereafter the remaining stacks of veneers and the frame are successively lowered by the second and the first lift means, respectively. This cycle of operation can be repeated continuously.

Second veneer is compiled on top of first veneer, and thereafter several additional veneers with adhesive on upper surfaces thereof are independently delivered from additional stations to main conveyor. Additional veneers have alternating grain directions and are compiled on top of one another and first and second veneers. Finally, uppermost veneer without adhesive thereon is delivered from final station to main conveyor, and thereafter uppermost veneer is compiled on top of other veneers so that grain thereof is transverse to grain of adjacent veneer.
