摘要: The present invention is a microwave preheat press. The microwave preheat press includes a first and a second press section which define a press passage therebetween. A compression belt movable along the press passage is contiguous with one of the press sections. The press passage is configured such that it has an initial press section leading into a final press section. A microwave generator is in communication with a microwave waveguide applicator structure assembly such that microwave energy is created and transmitted through the microwave waveguide assembly into the initial compression section.

摘要: A method for forming a product from cellulosic material and thermoactive material is described. A mat is formed from a mixture having a predetermined amount of cellulosic material and a predetermined amount of thermoplastic material. The mat is then consolidated and pressed to a predetermined final product thickness. At least a portion of a surface of the mat or product is then surface modified. Consolidating the mixture may include forming a first face layer, forming a core layer on the first face layer, and forming a second face layer on the core layer. Forming the core layer may include depositing mixtures of wood flakes and plastic flakes according to mixture flake size in successive layers such that the core layer has larger flakes adjacent the first face layer and adjacent the second face layer, and smaller flakes in a middle portion of the core layer. The method also can include fusing a sheet of plastic material to at least one surface of the mat, and surface modifying the plastic material. Grafting chemicals can be applied to surface modified mats, plastic material or products. A composite product also is described. One embodiment of the product comprises a first portion having a first core formed from a mixture comprising a cellulosic material and a thermoplastic material, and at least one face layer attached to the first core. The product also comprises a second portion bonded to the first portion. The second portion comprises a second core formed from a mixture comprising a cellulosic material and a thermoplastic material, and at least one face layer attached to the second core.

摘要: A method of manufacturing a contoured, consolidated cellulosic article, with variable basis weight, is disclosed. The method employs a former to create a mat having a substantially uniform thickness which is pre-pressed to retain its shape. The pre-pressed mat is then machined along at least one surface to result in a desirable contour. The contoured mat is then consolidated within a secondary press. The secondary press preferably includes platens shaped complementarily to the surfaces of the mat.

摘要: Process for calibration of spectroscopic instrumentation for non-invasive monitoring of resin-loading of furnish-type wood materials, such as particles or fibers for particleboard or medium density fiberboard, respectively. Selection of ranges of wavelengths within a 350 nm to 2500 nm region by providing selection of spectrometers and sensors for wavelength ranges of 350-1000 nm, 1000 to 1800 nm, 1000 to 2500 nm, and 400 to 2200 nm, for use by engineered-wood manufacturing installations. Resin-loaded wood material is exposed to selected VIS/NIR energy and monitored as it moves on-line in relation to calibrated spectroscopic instrumentation; a sensor collects non-absorbed radiation energy reflected by the wood materials. Measurements are processed, in relation to pre-established calibration data, to determine whether the resin-loading is within manufacturing objectives; monitoring and feedback are used to maintain desired specifications.

摘要: A device for levelling a particulate material web (3), such as a wood-fibre mat laid out on a wire (2) and intended for the production of wood-fibre boards, the material web being moved in relation to the device, comprises a rotary shaft (4) and a plurality of elliptic discs (6) mounted thereon. The shaft (4) is adapted to be arranged transversely of the direction of movement of the material web (3) and extends through the centers of the discs (6). The discs (6) are mounted at an axial distance from one another so as to rotate with the shaft (4). About their minor axes, the discs (6) are so inclined in relation to the shaft (4) as to have a circular axial projection.

摘要: A continuously operating press for the production of particle boards, fiber boards and similar wood boards and plastic boards, has flexible endless steel belts which transmit the pressing pressure, pull the material to be pressed through the press, are guided over driving drums and reversing drums around an upper and a lower press beam and are supported with an adjustable press nip against press/heating platens on the press beams via rolling supporting elements which accompany their revolution and are guided with their axes transverse to the direction of belt running. The lower and/or the upper press/heating platen is vertically adjustable to set the press nip by a plurality of cylinder-piston arrangements arranged in rows transversely to the longitudinal axis of the press. The pressure pistons of the cylinder-piston arrangements each have a multi-surface support to give flexible multi-point introduction of force relative to the elastically deformable press/heating platens and spherical deformation of the press/heating platen over its length and width can be introduced by different forces in the cylinders across the width and/or the length by virtue of the multi-surface support of the cylinder-piston arrangements.

摘要: A plurality of intermittent incisions are made in the surface region of a fiberboard to sever fibers without removing them from said region. The resultant fiberboard may be molded under heat and pressure to a three dimensional hardboard with high fidelity to the mold and without causing stretch marks, tears or fractures. The fiberboard may be a dry consolidated mass of wet felted cellulosic fibers. The invention is particularly valuable in the molding of boards made from redwood fibers and other long fibers. The intermittent incisions may be made along one or more lines parallel to or perpendicular to the longitudinal edge of the fiberboard but a grid of incisions along intersecting lines is advantageous. To cut the incisions, the fiberboard is moved on a conveyor belt while an assemblage of toothed cutting disks is rotated in cutting engagement with the board. The cutting disks are mounted co-axially on a motor-driven shaft.

摘要: A fiber or chip board is made by first forming a mixture of a binder and particles having a relatively low moisture content that is substantially less than a relatively high moisture content that a finished board should have. This mixture is deposited as a mat on a movable substrate so that the mat is substantially at ambient temperature and has the relatively low moisture content. Then the mat is preheated with steam to raise its temperature and to increase its moisture content to the predetermined relatively high moisture content. The thus preheated mat, whose moisture content has been corrected, is then simultaneously heated and compressed to form it into a board.
