    摘要： A method and apparatus for forming containerized packages of glass strand is disclosed. The apparatus includes a novel attenuator for forming glass strand comprising a pair of double gear belts between which the strand is pulled, a pair of deflectors for absorbing inertial forces of the glass strand as the strand leaves the gear belts, and a container for receiving the glass strand. The apparatus provides the attenuative forces necessary to form the glass strand and the forces necessary to package the glass strand in a container.

    摘要： In a spinning apparatus there is provided a yarn device which has two continuously and oppositely oppositely spaced rollers (a withdrawing roller and a reversing roller) and a pinch roller shiftable, in response to the tension of the spun yarn, into engagement with either withdrawing to advance the yarn forward from a spinning device to a winding device, or the reversing reversing to return the yarn, in case of breakage, to the spinning device for piecing. In either operative position, the pinch roller projects the space between the withdrawing roller and the reversing roller.

    摘要： A cable engine for the laying or recovery of submarine cables includes hydraulically powered traction wheels fitted with pneumatic tires to apply traction to a cable. The traction wheels are arranged in pairs, each pair contacting the cable at opposite ends of a diameter, and are resiliently mounted to enable a repeater to pass through the engine without damage. Resiliently mounted guide rollers may be employed in addition to the traction wheels. A shipboard mounting for the engine is shown and includes a load cell arrangement to enable cable tension to be monitored. A hydraulic control system for use in both laying and recovering operations is described.
