    摘要： A furnace for melting and refining E glass comprises a melting and refining tank for melting and refining the glass batch materials into glass and a forehearth, downstream of the tank, for further refining the glass and delivering the glass to fiberizing means. The melting and refining tank is heated with oxygen fired burners. The oxygen fired burners in the melting and refining tank are located in the sidewalls at the upstream end of the tank and extend for about one-third the length of the tank. In one embodiment, burners are also located in the upstream end wall. This arrangement of the oxygen fired burners at the upstream end of the melting and refining tank moves the melter hot spot upstream for better refining of the glass and enables the furnace to produce a higher output of glass than can be obtained in a conventional E glass furnace of the same size.

    摘要： A pair of spaced opposing upstanding surfaces are provided and an inclined upwardly facing ramp surface extends therebetween and includes a lower marginal edge. A partial cylindrical wall extends axially between the upstanding surfaces and opens in a generally horizontal direction between and paralleling the upstanding surfaces. The partial cylindrical wall includes an upper marginal edge portion registered with the lower marginal edge of the inclined ramp surface and a generally radially partitioned feed wheel is journaled between the upstanding surfaces and has one side thereof closely embraced by the partial cylindrical wall. Drive structure drivingly rotates the wheel in a direction to move the upper radial partitions thereof in the general direction in which the partial cylindrical wall opens and a gravity discharge outlet is spaced above the wheel and the area between the upstanding surfaces above the lower portion of the inclined ramp surface. The gravity discharge outlet is shiftable, relative to the wheel ramp surface, in a horizontal direction paralleling the direction in which the partial cylindrical wall opens, and includes a vertically adjustable gate extending across the side of the discharge outlet facing in the direction in which the partial cylindrical wall opens movable toward and away from the upper periphery of the wheel.

    摘要： Apparatus is provided for supplying glass to glass melters, the glass specifically being glass bodies in the form of marbles or balls. The marbles are fed by gravity from a hopper to melting units therebelow through flexible supply chutes. Between the hopper and the supply chutes are ejector chutes for ejecting pieces of broken marbles prior to reaching the flexible supply chutes, to avoid jamming therein. The ejector chute has at least one elongate opening extending the length thereof and of a size to pass through broken marbles.
