Abstract:
The present invention relates to detergent compositions, especially liquid, granular and tablet forms of laundry detergent compositions, that comprise improved hydrotropes, wherein the hydrotropes are organic molecules in which two polar groups are separated from each other by at least 5 aliphatic carbon atoms; liquid compositions that contain such hydrotropes have a viscosity, dilution profile and dissolution behavior that render the product effective and convenient for use as a liquid laundry detergent composition.
Abstract:
Clear or translucent fabric softening compositions having a biodegradable fabric softening active and an added chelating agent are disclosed. The biodegradable fabric softening active preferably has the formula: wherein each R substituent is hydrogen or a short chain C1-C6, preferably C1-C3 alkyl or hydroxyalkyl group, e.g., methyl (most preferred), ethyl, propyl, hydroxyethyl, and the like, benzyl, or mixtures thereof; each m is 2 or 3; each n is from 1 to about 4, preferably 2; each Y is —O—(O)C—, —(R)N—(O)C—, —C(O)—N(R)—, or —C(O)—O—, preferably —O—(O)C—; the sum of carbons in each R1, plus one when Y is —O—(O)C— or —(R)N—(O)—, is C6-C22, preferably C12-22, more preferably C14-C20, but no more than one R1 or YR1 sum being less than about 12 and then the other R1 or YR1 sum is at least about 16, with each R1 being a long chain C5-C21 (or C6-C22), preferably C9-C19 (or C9-C20), most preferably C11-C17 (or C12-C18), straight, branched, unsaturated or polyunsatruated alkyl, the average Iodine Value of the parent fatty acid of the R1 being from about 20 to about 140. The chelating agent is preferably diaminetriaminepentaacetic acid. The compositions display excellant clarity with a percentage haze in the transmission mode of a Hunter Color analysis of less than 90%, preferably less than 50%.
Abstract:
Catalytic systems and methods for oxidizing materials in the presence of metal catalysts (preferably manganese-containing catalysts) complexed with selected macropolycyclic rigid ligands, preferably cross-bridged macropolycyclic ligands. Included are using these metal catalysts in such processes as: synthetic organic oxidation reactions such as oxidation of organic functional groups, hydrocarbons, and heteroatoms, including enantiomeric epoxidation of alkenes, enynes, sulfides to sulfones and the like; oxidation of oxidizable compounds (e.g., stains) on surfaces such as fabrics, dishes, countertops, dentures and the like; oxidation of oxidizable compounds in solution, dye transfer inhibition in the laundering of fabrics; and further in the bleaching of pulp and paper products.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to sulfur dye protection systems and compositions and methods employing same, as well as processes for making sulfur dyes, especially bleach stable sulfur dyes, processes for dying textiles with sulfur dyes and textiles dyed by such processes. More particularly, the present invention relates to modifying existing dyes and/or making newly formed sulfur dyes. Even more particularly, the present invention relates to materials that can chemically or physically interact with sulfur dyes to protect the sulfur dyes from oxidation by oxidizing agents, such as bleaching agents.
Abstract:
Methods of enhancing stain resistance of fibers, carpet yarns and carpets are disclosed. Treating compositions used to enhance the stain resistance of fibers, carpet yarns and carpets are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A device for applying a thickened cleaning composition to a selected surface area that minimizes or eliminates any unintentional or excess application of the composition and/or minimizes or eliminates any spreading or wicking of the composition beyond the selected surface area after application. A dispensing device featuring the combination of a thickened cleaning composition having a specified rheology and dispensing means with one or more orifices of preferred cross-sectional area that enable convenient application of a cleaning composition to the selected region of a soft or hard surface. Additionally, the dispensing device features cleaning compositions having preferred wicking rates with respect to the treated surfaces so that only the selected stained or soiled region of the surface is effectively treated, as the cleaning compositions will not spread or wick into adjacent regions of the surface where damage may occur.
Abstract:
A fabric article treating device having an interior dispenser adapted for location inside of a fabric article drying appliance and a reservoir. The interior dispenser and reservoir are adapted for fluid communication with one another. The reservoir contains a benefit composition and is configured to maintain to minimize contamination within the reservoir during dispensing of the benefit composition.
Abstract:
A method and an apparatus for recovering non-aqueous wash fluid and rinse fluid from a non-aqueous fabric laundering process. The method includes removing particulates, separating the rinse fluid from the wash fluid, removing dissolved soils, and removing insoluble soils.
