    摘要: The self chilling liquid container including a bottle having a top portion with an opening therein for filling the bottle and a removable cap, a closed bottom portion and an elongated center portion. An absorbent elastic exterior shell is received around an outer circumference of the center portion and secured thereto. The exterior shell may be permanently attached to the center portion or removably attached. When the exterior shell is saturated with water and is exposed to the atmosphere, the liquid within the shell evaporates at ambient temperature thus chilling the liquid inside the bottle by heat transfer. The chilling effect is substantially increased by airflow flowing past the flexible shell. In this manner, the primary source of heating of a liquid in the container, that is air flow, is changed to a primary source of cooling the liquid. The exterior shell is made of a hydrophilic open-cell elastomeric material that has sufficient thickness and void-volume to absorb several ounces of a cooling medium (i.e., water) and thus can provide an active evaporative cooling capability for the duration of the bicycle ride. In the event that all of the cooling medium evaporates from the shell, the enclosure material will still act as an insulator.

    摘要: The compact rotary evaporative cooler of this invention includes a case containing a powered rotor mounting a partition that divides the case longitudinally into a wetted chamber and a nonwetted chamber. An annular array of elongated Perkins tubes is supported for rotation with the rotor and each Perkins tube extends through the partition, with the evaporation end section extending into the nonwetted chamber and the condensing end section extending into the wetted chamber. Each Perkins tube mounts a plurality of closely spaced heat conductive fins along its length, and a layer of porous metal is bonded to the entire inner surface of the evaporation section of the tube. A first inlet port introduces hot, dry outside air into the wetted chamber and a first outlet port vents the cooled but humidified air from the wetted chamber to the atmosphere or to a space to be conditioned. A second inlet port introduces atmospheric or compartment space air into the nonwetted chamber and a second outlet port vents cooled air from the nonwetted chamber for controlled mixing with the vented air from the first outlet port and delivery to a space to be conditioned. A water reservoir and pump supply water mist into the wetted chamber for wetting the finned heat transfer surfaces. A bootstrap mode may be provided by communicating outlet air duct 64 with inlet air duct 58 and outlet air duct 60 with the space 56. A controller valve 80 in inlet air duct 58 allows outside air to be mixed with air in duct 64.

    摘要: An evaporative cooler in which a series of evaporative pads are positioned in a spaced apart relationship. Water from a reservoir is deposited onto the pads to moisten them. As the water on the pads evaporates, the surrounding air is cooled; thereby becoming denser and settling through the outlet at the bottom of the housing and into the area to be cooled. The falling cool air draws in warm air at the top of the housing, which in turn is then cooled by the pads to continue the cycle.

    摘要: Novel heat exchangers and methods of constructing the heat exchangers for use in indirect evaporative cooling applications. The evaporative apparatus for cooling comprises both a multi-stage indirect evaporative cooling heat exchanger; and a multi-stage sump where each sump stage, in a one-to-one relationship. Other multistage heat exchangers with their associated multistage sumps can be combined, with the cooled air of a first multistage evaporative assembly feeding into the intake end of a second multistage evaporative assembly, and so on. These heat exchangers can be used for comfort and industrial applications cooling. The invention can be an entire assembly for the pre-cooling and cleaning of the air going to a gas turbine or any other air breathing device, with an air washer stage in which air is directly cooled by evaporation and where simultaneously the air is also cleaned of dust, dirt and other impurities.
