Abstract:
Isolation IR heat lamp module and method of firing multi-zone IR furnaces for solar cell processing comprising lamps disposed in individual parallel channels in a reflector/insulator body to provide a cooling air channel surrounding each tube; the channels are covered with IR-transmissive plate material to isolate each lamp from adjacent lamps and the process zone. Cooling air is exhausted and recycled upstream for energy conservation. Lamp spacing can be varied and power to each lamp individually controlled to provide infinite control of temperature profile in each heating zone. For a spike zone, and in combination with downstream quench control and annealing zones, steep heating and cooling curves with very short dwell (sharp) peak temperature profiles permit faster throughput due to operation of the lampsm at essentially 100% rated capacity, at a 2× or greater heating and throughput rate without compromising lamp life, while producing solar cells with improved output efficiency.
Abstract:
The present invention provides arrangements for electroluminescent displays 10 comprising a packaged semiconductor light emitting element 12 that has a light emitting display side 16. A heat sink 22 is disposed in the region of a rear side of the light-emitting element 12 opposite to the display side. Electrical connections 28 from the light emitting element 12 pass through said heat sink 22. Drive circuitry 30 for the light emitting element 12 is connected thereto by the electrical connections 28 and spaced apart from the heat sink 22 in such a manner that at least one cooling channel 34 is defined between the heat sink 22 and the drive circuitry 30 for the passage in use of a cooling fluid.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for cooling window foils for extracting electron beams from a scanning type electron beam accelerator, the accelerator includes a primary window foil of double window type and a secondary window foil, the method and the apparatus are characterized by blowing cooling gasses against an electron beam scanning surface from both sides thereof to cool the primary window foil then reversing the flow of the cooling gasses at the center of the primary window foil, and circulating the cooling gasses by sucking the cooling gasses from both sides of the electron beam scanning surface to thereby simultaneously cool the secondary window foil.

Abstract:
A display device with a cooling circuit in the screen to limit the rise in temperature of the luminescent material, particularly during strong current densities of the electron beam. The device comprises a window formed of an optical fiber plate of which one or several cladding glasses have been partially removed in order to form channels for the passage of a cooling liquid while maintaining studs comprising light conductors formed by the glass core surrounded by a cladding glass of the optical fiber plate. A transparent display window having a luminescent layer is glued or sealed to the window thus constituting a cooling network connected to an external circulation by pipes embedded in moulding tubes.
Abstract:
Articles for irradiation are introduced from atmospheric pressure through a vacuum lock to a high vacuum environment for processing. The maintenance of low operating pressures while water vapor is released from the surfaces of the lock and the article is principally achieved by a separate pumping device operating in the high vacuum enclosure, which device preferably takes the form of a large cryo-panel. The cryo-panel can be electrically isolated from ground to provide a charge collection surface within a Faraday cage for ion implantation processing of the article.
Abstract:
An improved apparatus for projecting a solids-containing gaseous media into an arc discharge utilizing a cone shaped cathode, with a passage along the conical surface thereof for insertion of gaseous media into the arc discharge, employing a plurality of individual linear feed channels having a constant flow cross-sectional area in said passage, said individual feed channels being supplied from a common source of a solids entrained gaseous media through flow splitters splitting said gaseous media into equal amounts, said flow splitters having two or more converging channels on the outlet side forming an angle of 15.degree. or less, opening into a channel of the same or greater cross-sectional area as the sum of the areas of the two or more converging channels, where the outlet area of said plurality of individual linear feed channels is extensively cooled to maintain the surface temperature of the outlet area below the temperature at which the solids contained in said gaseous media agglomerate; as well as the method for energizing a solids-containing gaseous media by means of an arc discharge employing said improved apparatus.

A magnetically focused coaxial triode structure includes a central longitudinal cathode, an intermediate control electrode around the cathode, and an outer tubular anode. The control electrode supports the inner cathode and is mounted on insulating spacers at the ends. Axial transverse slots along the control electrode provide openings for the electron beam. The anode has flat longitudinal water cooling channels connected by annular recesses at the ends.
Abstract:
A nonelectrode RF light source of directional radiation which is an optically transparent bulb filled with a discharge gas, holding a starting inductor having turns of a monotonically decreasing diameter. For its whole length and shape, the inductor is enclosed in an insulating tube whose inner surface has a coating acting as an optical reflector. The said light source produces a discharge with luminous and spectral characteristics constant with time and uniform in spatial distribution.
