Abstract: An electrolyte solution that satisfies at least one of the following (A) and (B) can improve the charge/discharge cycle performances of nonaqueous secondary batteries containing a lithium-free transition metal sulfide as a cathode active material and can also improve initial coulombic efficiency when a specific additive is used: (A) the nonaqueous secondary battery electrolyte solution contains an organic solvent containing a cyclic carbonate compound, and the content of the cyclic carbonate compound is 80 to 100 vol %, and the content of a chain carbonate compound is 0 to 20 vol %, based on the total amount of the organic solvent taken as 100 vol %; and (B) the nonaqueous secondary battery electrolyte solution contains an organic solvent containing a cyclic carbonate compound and an additive. A method for discharging a nonaqueous secondary battery containing a lithium-free transition metal sulfide as a cathode active material, including setting the depth of discharge during a charge-and-discharge cycle to 70 to 90%, can improve the charge/discharge cycle performances of nonaqueous secondary batteries containing a lithium-free transition metal sulfide as a cathode active material.
