A self-cross-linkable acrylic polymer contains at least two hydroxyalkyl carbamate groups per molecule and may comprise the reaction product of an acrylic backbone polymer containing one or more suitable reactive groups and an amine containing one primary or secondary amine group and at least one hydroxyalkyl carbamate group or precursor thereof. Alternatively, the self-cross-linkable polymer may be obtained by polymerization of an acrylic polymerizable monomer containing at least one hydroxyalkyl carbamate group. The amine is joined to the monomer or backbone polymer by reaction of the primary or secondary amine group thereof with suitable reactive functional groups of the monomer or resin. A method of making the acrylic polymer, which is heat curable to provide a thermoset film or coating, comprises reacting the monomer or backbone polymer with an amine containing hydroxyalkyl carbamate groups or precursors thereof comprising hydrolyzable blocked primary amine groups. When present, the blocked groups are unblocked and reacted with a cyclic carbonate to form the hydroxyalkyl carbamate groups.

A heat-hardenable binder mixture based on organic resins comprises an organic resin having primary and/or secondary and, if appropriate, also additional tertiary amino groups and a crosslinking agent based on an organic compound which contains at least 2 .beta.-hydroxyalkyl ester groups. The binder mixture can additionally contain pigments, fillers, crosslinking catalysts, corrosion inhibitors and other paint auxiliaries. The binder mixture is used in a process for preparing coatings by applying a coating agent in the form of a film to a substrate and subsequently hardening the film by stoving.

A thermosettable coating composition comprises a hydroxy group-containing polyurethane, polyurea or polyurethane/polyurea polymer, an amino cross-linker and optionally, a catalyst and/or solvent. The polymer is obtained by self condensation of an hydroxyalkyl carbamate compound or condensation of such compound with a polyol and/or a polyamine. An applied coating of the composition is cured by heating to an elevated temperature, e.g., from about 200.degree. to about 400.degree. F. (about 93.degree. to 204.degree. C.).

An impact-resistant thermoplastic resin composition having excellent transparency and appearance properties which comprises (A) a butadiene-styrenemethyl methacrylate-alkyl acrylate graft copolymer obtained by postpolymerization of styrene, methyl methacrylate and an alkyl acrylate to a latex comprising a butadiene homopolymer rubber or a butadiene-styrene copolymer rubber comprising mainly butadiene and having an average particle diameter of 0.1 to 0.5 .mu., and (B) a methyl methacrylate-styrene copolymer. This composition has quantitative limitation.

A resinous composition for coating use comprising a resin obtained by the reaction of base resin having as essential groups, both carboxyl groups derived from a polycarboxylic acid whose titration midpoint potential in non-aqueous potentiometric titration is more than -300 mV in a state capable of developing a resinous acid value and a functional group reactive with a crosslinking agent, and an alkyleneimine compound in an amount equivalent to resinous acid value of 0.01 to 50, the resinous acid value based on said polycarboxylic acid in the final composition being 2 to 50.This is useful for the preparation of a coating composition having improved curing property, storage stability and time color stability.

The invention relates to a self-crosslinking heatcurable binder, in particular for electropaints, which is based on an organic synthetic resin which contains primary and/or secondary and, if desired, also tertiary amino groups and esterified carboxyl groups and is water-dilutable due to partial or complete neutralization with acids. The esterified carboxyl groups are activated in the alcohol component by a substituent which induces a negative inductive effect.

A one component room temperature setting composition having an excellent storage stability comprising a hydrolyzable silyl group-containing vinyl polymer, a hardener and a stabilizer selected from a hydrolyzable ester compound and a .beta.-diketone compound, which may further contain a pigment and a solvent. The storage stability of the composition containing the hydrolyzable silyl group-containing vinyl polymer which is crosslinkable in the presence of water to harden at room temperature, can be remarkably improved by the presence of the above stabilizer.
