Abstract: A lighting fixture can comprise a flexible substrate and an array of light emitting diodes (LEDs) coupled to the flexible substrate. In various embodiments, the array of LEDs can be disposed at one region of the flexible substrate, with another area of the flexible substrate free from LEDs. Light emitted from the LED array can be incident upon the area that is free from LEDs, and that area can manage the incident light to achieve a desired effect. Accordingly, the flexible substrate can filter, diffuse, refract, transmit, diffract, imprint information upon, or otherwise purposely manipulate light generated by associated LEDs The flexible substrate may be manipulated into different forms for different lighting fixtures styles and models and for different applications.

Abstract: A heat dissipating housing for a lighting device includes a back wall comprising an upper section and a lower section. The housing further includes a sidewall extending down from the upper section of the back wall. The back wall and the sidewall define a cavity of the housing. The upper section of the back wall is elevated from the lower section of the back wall such that when a printed circuit board (PCB) is in contact with the lower section of the back wall within the cavity, an uninsulated electrical element on a back side of the PCB is separated by an air gap from a closest point on the housing by a distance that is at least 0.063 inch. The back side of the PCB faces the upper section of the back wall.

Abstract: A light source is combined with an optic and a reflector. Light incident onto to the reflector is reflected with a single reflection. The reflector occupies a portion of a solid angle around the light source to the exclusion of the optic at least with respect to any optical function. The reflector directly receives a second portion of light. The optic occupies substantially all of the remaining portion of the predetermined solid angle to directly receive a first portion of light from the light source. A reflected beam from the reflector is reflected into a predetermined reflection pattern. The inner and/or outer surface of the optic is shaped to refract or direct light which is directly transmitted into the optic from the light source from a first portion of light and/or reflected into the optic from the reflector from the reflected beam into a predetermined beam.

Abstract: A housing apparatus for use in a lighting system may include a housing body and a channel-type connection structure coupled to or formed in the housing body. The channel-type connection structure may define a channel having a generally U-shaped cross-section and extending along a length in a first direction perpendicular to the U-shaped cross-section. The channel-type connection structure may be configured to receive and engage at least one first connector inserted in the generally U-shaped channel in an axial direction generally parallel to the first direction, and further configured to receive and engage at least one second connector inserted in the generally U-shaped channel in a perpendicular direction generally perpendicular to the first direction.

Abstract: A linkable linear light emitting diode (LED) system provides apparatus and method for mechanically, optically, and electrically linking multiple LED modules disposed over a wide and separated area of a ceiling system. Openings can be cut in ceiling tiles of a drop ceiling system and the LED lighting modules are coupled to the tile through the opening, with the tile being sandwiched between different portions of the module. A remote driver system is placed within the drop ceiling above the tiles and provide multiple connectors for powering a multitude of lighting modules. Certain of the LED lighting modules include both input and output connectors for both receiving power or data and providing power or data to other modules. In this manner, some of the modules act as master LED lighting modules and those receiving power and/or data therefrom are act as slave modules.

Abstract: A digital sub-network interface unit includes a primary digital lighting interface port to couple to a primary lighting network. An address of the digital sub-network interface unit on the primary lighting network is manually set at the digital sub-network interface unit. The digital sub-network interface unit also includes a secondary digital lighting interface port to couple to a secondary lighting network. The digital sub-network interface unit further includes a lighting sub-network processor.
