摘要: An array of light emitting devices is mounted on a support surface with the transparent growth substrate (e.g., sapphire) facing up. A photoresist layer is then deposited over the top surface of the growth substrate, followed by depositing a reflective material over the top and side surfaces of the light emitting devices to encapsulate the light emitting devices. The top surfaces of the light emitting devices are then ground down to remove the reflective material over the top surface of the photoresist. The photoresist is then dissolved to leave a cavity over the growth substrate having reflective walls. The cavity is then filled with a phosphor. The phosphor-converted light emitting devices are then singulated to form packaged light emitting devices. All side light is reflected back into the light emitting device by the reflective material and eventually exits the light emitting device toward the phosphor. The packaged light emitting devices, when energized, appear as a white dot with no side emission (e.g., no blue halo).

摘要: The invention describes a light conversion module (100) comprising a transparent substrate (120), a conversion layer (110) attached to a light exit side of the substrate (120), wherein the conversion layer (110) is arranged to convert a part of laser light (10) of a first wavelength range entering the substrate (120) via a light entrance side to converted laser light (20) of a second wavelength range different from the first wavelength range, and to transmit another part of the laser light (10), such that a mixture of the transmitted laser light (15) and of a part of the converted laser light (20) leaves the conversion layer (110) in forward direction opposite to the side where the conversion layer (110) is attached to the light exit side of the substrate (120), and wherein the substrate (120) is arranged such that converted laser light (20) entering the substrate via the light exit side is inhibited to re-enter the conversion layer (110) via the light exit side by arranging a thickness of the substrate (120) perpendicular to the light exit side such that the converted laser light (20) entering the substrate which is totally reflected at the light entrance side of the substrate (120) does not hit the conversion layer (110) after one total reflection at the light entrance side. The invention further describes a laser-based light source (200), 130 especially an automotive headlight, comprising such a light conversion module (100). The invention further relates to a method of manufacturing such a light conversion module (100).

By enabling diagonal as well as lateral coupling of the bond pads of multiple light emitting elements of a die, the multiple light emitting elements may be arranged in a variety of series and/or parallel configurations, thereby facilitating the use of the same die at different nominal operating voltages with a single inter-connect layer on the substrate upon which the die is mounted.

摘要: A light emitting device includes a vertical via through the P-type semi-conductor layer and the active layer. Using a vertical via reduces quantum well damage, allows shortening of P-N spacing, and allows increased reflective area. A dielectric structure is formed in the via to provide a sloped wall that extends to an upper surface of the device. Another dielectric layer covers the upper surface and the sloped wall, and provides select contacts to the semiconductor layers. A metal layer is subsequently applied. Because the dielectric layers provide a continuous slope from the surface of the device, the metal layer does not include a vertical drop. Because the active layer does not extend into the via, the contact to the N-type semiconductor layer may be situated closer to the wall of the via, increasing the area available for a reflective layer.

摘要: A system includes a first primary optics that receives light from a first light source and projects it onto a transparent shutter and a secondary optics. A second primary optics receives light from the second light source and projects it onto the transparent shutter. The transparent shutter receives light from the first light source via the first primary optics and prevents a lower part of it from entering the secondary optics. The transparent shutter further receives light from the second light source via the second primary optics and projects it onto the secondary optics. The secondary optics receives light from the first primary optics and the transparent shutter and projects it onto a road in front of the vehicle. The transparent shutter includes an air-exposed slit that redirects the light received by the transparent shutter from the second light source toward a middle axis of the transparent shutter.

摘要: A vehicle headlamp system includes a vehicle supported power and control system including a data bus. A sensor module can be connected to the data bus to provide information related to environmental conditions or information relating to presence and position of other vehicles and pedestrians. A separate headlamp controller can be connected to the vehicle supported power and control system and the sensor module through the bus. The headlamp controller can include an image frame buffer that can refresh held images at greater than 30 Hz speed. An active LED pixel array can be connected to the headlamp controller to project light according to a pattern and intensity defined by the image held in the image frame buffer and a standby image buffer can be connected to the image frame buffer to hold a default image.
