Abstract: Disclosed herein are apparatus and methods for reducing latency in core network processing in the telecommunications networks. A method includes receiving, by a network function (NF) at registration time with a network function repository function (NRF), resource metrics and a network address for each NF registered with the NRF, invoking, by the NF, one or more network addresses to request updated resource metrics from an associated NF, starting, by the NF, a response timer for each invoked network address, stopping, by the NF, the response timer for each invoked network address upon receipt of an updated resource metrics from the associated NF, determining, by the NF, a round-trip time for each associated NF having a start time and a stop time, and determining, by the NF, a ranking for each NF based on at least one of the round-trip time and the updated resource metrics.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for optimizing bandwidth utilization and services in a data network infrastructure. In one embodiment, the data network is a managed Hybrid Fiber Coaxial (HFC) cable network, and the network infrastructure is configured to enable dynamic allocate of frequency bands to individual consumer premises device (e.g., DOCSIS-compliant cable modems). In one variant, the improved network infrastructure enables creation of virtual Service Groups (vSGs), and allocation of individual ones of the CM to such vSGs, to some degree irrespective of topological or “hardwired” location within the network. The allocations can be dynamic, and based on factors such as load balancing, evacuation of portions of the physical network topology (such as to support infrastructure upgrades or replacement), or for yet other reasons such as relating to subscriber tier or service level agreement (SLA).

Abstract: A communication management resource such as associated with a first wireless access point receives a first communication from a first mobile communication device. Via the first communication, the communication management resource associated with the first wireless access point determines a channel quality associated with a first wireless channel, the first wireless channel acquirable by the first mobile communication device via clear channel assessment. Based on the determined channel quality, the communication management resource controls conveyance of a second communication between the first mobile communication device and a first wireless access point over the first wireless channel.

Abstract: In a wireless communications system, such as a 5G CBRS system, a server maintains an inter-SAS database that stores propagation files for base stations (e.g., CBSDs) associated with different SASs. A first SAS retrieves, from the inter-SAS database, propagation files for other SASs' CBSDs that are nearby a (e.g., new or reconfigured) CBSD associated with the first SAS and uses the retrieved propagation files to assign, to its CBSD, channel(s) that have minimal interference with the other SASs' nearby CBSDs. The first SAS retrieves information about the nearby CBSDs from an FCC database and then communicates with the other SASs about the existence of the nearby CBSDs' propagation files in the inter-SAS database. Each other SAS ensures that the propagation files for its nearby CBSDs are in the inter-SAS database.

Abstract: A bridged gateway coupled to a local area network (LAN) receives a layer 2 frame from a device coupled to the LAN. The bridged gateway forwards, to a network gateway router that provides layer 3 routing services for the LAN, the layer 2 frame via a layer 2 tunnel. The bridged gateway determines that the layer 2 frame comprises a dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) discover message, the DHCP discover message including an initial message in a four message sequence used by the network gateway router and the device to provide an internet protocol (IP) address to the device. The bridged gateway determines that the four message sequence between the device and the network gateway router did not complete. The bridged gateway, in response to determining the four message sequence did not complete, sends, to a destination, an alert that comprises information indicating a problem with the network gateway router.

Abstract: Various embodiments comprise systems, methods, architectures, mechanisms and apparatus for enabling dynamic configuration of CBSD devices with CBRS spectrum grants defined/sized using enhanced SAS channel assignment capabilities supporting low bandwidth channels/applications (e.g., IoT services) in the shared spectrum while minimizing spectrum wastage. Existing CBSD-SAS call flow message exchange and registration data specifications are modified in accordance with various embodiments to provide support for radio types having spectrum requirements less than the nominal minimum channel size.

Abstract: Based on a service agreement between a first wireless network provider and a content provider, a user, who subscribes to a second wireless network provider that does not have a roaming agreement with the first wireless network provider, can use an unauthenticated wireless device to receive content from a content system of the content provider via a wireless network of the first wireless network provider. In certain embodiments, the unauthenticated wireless device communicates with an orchestration node of the wireless network using encapsulated messages transmitted via a logical tunnel that bypass nodes of the wireless network that would otherwise prevent a network connection from being established between the unauthenticated wireless device and the wireless network.

Abstract: The presentation invention relates to methods and apparatus for communicating data in communications networks. An exemplary method in accordance with one embodiment includes the steps of: establishing a first Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) session between a wireless base station and a Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS); receiving via the first TCP session at the CMTS a first set of TCP data packets from a cable modem located on a communications path between the wireless base station and the CMTS, the first set of TCP data packets having been sent by the wireless base station; and determining, by the CMTS, whether to send an Acknowledgement (ACK) message or a Negative Acknowledgement (NACK) message to the wireless base station for the entire first set of TCP data packets based on verifying a subset of TCP data packets of the first set of TCP data packets.

Abstract: A content distribution system as discussed herein includes one or more instances of communication management hardware. The communication management hardware tracks a status of multiple different groupings of edge nodes in a content delivery network. Each of the edge nodes is operative to distribute content (such as video content, video segments, digital assets, etc.) in a network environment. The communication device is redirected to the communication management hardware for selection of an appropriate edge node to deliver content to the communication device. To provide load balancing, the communication management hardware selects an appropriate edge node from the different available edge nodes in different edge node clusters. The communication management hardware then communicates an identity of the selected edge node to the communication device. The communication device then communicates with the selected edge node to retrieve the content.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for controlling device use of available networks, e.g., cellular and WiFi, are described. End devices report key performance indicator and resource utilization information, e.g., on a per application basis, to a configuration server. The configuration server determines, based on the received information, e.g., using machine learning and/or artificial intelligence, sets of configuration profiles, each configuration profile including one or more set of applications for which an end device should use a particular network. An exemplary configuration profile may identify a first set of applications for which a first network is to be used, e.g., a cellular network such as a P-LTE network, and a second set of applications for which a second network, e.g. a WiFi network, is to be used. The configuration server selects a configuration profile that is best suited for a particular end device and communicates that selected profile to the end device.
