Abstract: A fiber channel storage area network (SAN) provides virtualized storage space for a number of servers to a number of virtual disks implemented on various virtual redundant array of inexpensive disks (RAID) devices striped across a plurality of physical disk drives. The SAN includes plural controllers and communication paths to allow for fail-safe and fail-over operation. The plural controllers can be loosely-coupled to provide n-way redundancy and more than one independent channel for communicating with one another. In the event of a failure involving a controller or controller interface, the virtual disks that are accessed via the affected interfaces are re-mapped to another interface in order to continue to provide high data availability. In particular a resource re-allocation routine operating on one of the controllers employs predetermined criteria against a family of potential back-up controllers in order to select appropriate back-up controllers for a particular device that fails. The criteria, for example, can include an explicit primary/secondary table to control selecting a secondary controller for any primary controller or be more complex so as to consider such statistics as data transfer loads among the interfaces, data transfer loads among the controllers, or the number of targets assigned to each interfaces.

Abstract: Nanofilms useful for filtration are prepared from amphiphilic species and one or more polymeric components. The amphiphilic species or components may be oriented on an interface or surface. A nanofilm may be prepared by coupling one or more of the components. The nanofilm may also be deposited or attached to a substrate.

Abstract: The present invention is related to a method for kinetically separating a light hydrocarbon mixture comprising at least two components by preferentially adsorbing a first component on a zeolite adsorbent comprising 8-member rings of tetrahedra as the pore opening controlling hydrocarbon diffusion and alkali metal cations balancing a framework charge, wherein a second component is not preferentially adsorbed. The novel process comprises contacting the light hydrocarbon mixture with a zeolite adsorbent having a SiO2/Al2O3 ratio greater than about 50 and less than 200 and further having a diffusion rate at least 50 times greater for the first component as compared to the second component, and then recovering at least one of the first component or the second component.

Abstract: A system for bi-directional communication within a power distribution system. The system is configured to find an endpoint, the endpoint having an endpoint transceiver in electrical communication with a power distribution line. The power distribution line is within the power distribution system, and the endpoint is identified by a unique I.D. The system comprises a substation transceiver electrically coupled to a power distribution line within the power distribution system. A substation circuit is in electrical communication with the substation transceiver. The substation circuit is programmed to map the unique I.D. for the endpoint to a base frequency within a bandwidth and to control the endpoint to transmit a find endpoint data packet onto the power distribution network. The find endpoint data packet includes the unique I.D. and the base frequency. The substation circuit is further programmed to assign a status to the base frequency upon receiving a signal from the endpoint, the status indicating that the substation transceiver is receiving signals in the frequency bandwidth.
