Abstract:
The present invention relates to method and apparatus of determining a recording location of a high-density recording medium. The present method determines a targeted recording location on a high-density rewritable or read-only recording medium based on successively-detected frame syncs or their combination that includes at least one frame sync written after the targeted recording location.
Abstract:
A read-only recording medium and a reproducing method thereof ensures reproduction compatibility with a rewritable recording medium in which real data is recorded with substantial discontinuity. The read-only recording medium comprises a data recording area in which real data is stored; and a plurality of waste areas allocated at intervals in the data recording area. The method of reproducing data stored in a read-only recording medium reproduces data from the read-only recording medium, skips if a waste area is encountered or removes invalid data reproduced from the waste area wherein each waste area has been inserted periodically in the read-only recording medium, and outputs the data reproduced before and behind each waste area in succession. As a result, the playability is improved in a disk device capable of reproducing both a read-only and a rewritable recording medium.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method of inserting sync patterns of different lengths in modulated data, and a recording medium having sync patterns produced by the method. The sector sync and the frame sync pattern to be inserted in modulated data in accordance with the present invention must satisfy the given (d,k) constraints, have distinctive 0's run the modulated channel data can not have, and be as short as it can. In addition, the frame sync pattern is shorter than the sector sync pattern because the frame sync pattern is more frequently inserted than the sector one. Owing to the present sync patterns, the storage capacity reduction of a recording medium due to necessary insertion of sync patterns can be minimized under a given modulation condition.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a high-density disk that is structured to prevent a collision of an optical pickup's objective lens with the high-density disk if the disk is placed upside down in a disk device that is able to record and reproduce signals to/from the high-density disk. A high-density disk recording medium according to the present invention is structured such that, wherein a recording layer having high-density pit patterns is offset from a center plane of disk thickness, both sides of a clamping zone bisected by the center plane have differing thicknesses. One or both sides may protrude from surface of the disk recording medium, or one side of the clamping zone may protrude from the surface while the other side is indented below the surface.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to method and apparatus of modulating a series of data words into (d,k) constrained sequence in order to record onto a recording medium. The present method generates, for each data word, a number of alternative sequences by combining mutually different digital words with the data word, calculates for each alternative sequence a digital sum value (DSV) and a penalty based on respective consecutive-zeros sections within the sequence and a joining consecutive “zeros” to a previously-selected sequence, and selects one alternative sequence for recording onto a recordable medium based on the calculated DSV and penalties. Owing to the present invention, DC component of sequences to be recorded onto a recording medium is suppressed and stabilization of a reproduction clock is improved through writing more edge information (i.e., “1”s).
Abstract:
A high density optical disc that can be driven changeably with the existent optical disc by the same driving apparatus. On the recording surface of the optical disc, a light transmissive layer with a thickness of about 0.2 to 0.4 mm is formed. The recording face is accessed by allowing a light beam with a wavelength of 395 to 425 nm in a spot shape to be irradiated onto it. Also, the light beam is converged in a spot shape by an objective lens having the numerical aperture of about 0.62 to 0.68.

Abstract:
An optical pickup apparatus including an improved objective lens having at least one ring-shaped mask for preventing aberrations caused by differences in the thickness of discs being reproduced. The objective lens is capable of achieving improved focus by removing aberrations which occur when reading data from discs having different recording densities and thicknesses. The masks formed in the objective lens has a predetermined mask radius (r.sub.n +1) and a predetermined mask width (.DELTA.r.sub.n +1).
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a solid oxide fuel cell stack having an electrically conductive interconnect, including the steps of: (a) providing a first fuel cell and a second fuel cell, (b) providing a substrate having an iron-chromium alloy, (c) depositing a layer of metallic cobalt over a portion of substrate surface, (d) subjecting the layer of metallic cobalt to reducing conditions, (e) then exposing the remaining portion of the layer of metallic cobalt to oxidizing conditions for a predetermined time and temperature, such that the surface portion of the layer of metallic cobalt is oxidized to cobalt oxide, thereby forming the electrically conductive interconnect having a layer of metallic cobalt sandwiched between a surface layer of cobalt oxide and the layer of cobalt-iron-chromium alloy, and (f) sandwiching the substrate between the first and second fuel cells.
