Abstract: Various devices and methods are disclosed to support clustering optimization in a communication system. For example, multiple nodes of the communication system can be segmented into multiple clustering plans. Each clustering plan can include multiple clusters that do not overlap with one another within that clustering plan. At least one of the clusters of one clustering plan can overlap at least one of the clusters of at least one other clustering plan. Each node could be a non-boundary node in at least one cluster of at least one clustering plan. Multiple nodes of the communication system can alternatively be segmented into clusters having expanding and contracting borders.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided that may simplify and enhance the location of nodes in a network, including ED and mobile TPs, even if all or many of the nodes are mobile. The methods may be used to enable single TP positioning, and may be used to reduce synchronization error. The provided methods make use of smart reflectors having known location. By processing a combination of signals, which may include an original transmitted signal, and/or one or more reflected signals, the location of a receiving node can be determined. Media tagging may be employed to allow a receiver to detect the identity of the nearby reflectors (with known locations) and based on the identity determine the locations of the reflectors. Using this information, the receiving node can detect its location regardless of knowing the transmission source and/or location.

Abstract: Methods and devices for sounding reference signal (SRS) carrier aggregation are provided. A target device is configured with N (N≥2) SRSs that include a reference SRS and N−1 target SRS. Lower layer signaling, such as a MAC-CE or a DCI message, is used to activate the N−1 target SRS, such that each of the N SRSs is transmitted on a respective carrier component from a common antenna port. The lower level signaling used to activate the target SRS may identify configuration parameters of the target SRS that are to be overridden by the corresponding configuration parameters of the reference SRS. Embodiments of the present disclosure increase the effective SRS bandwidth, which may improve positioning measurement accuracy, while also reducing the higher-layer configuration signaling by activating target SRS in lower layer signaling and overriding some configuration parameters of the target SRS by the corresponding configuration parameters of the reference SRS.

Abstract: Methods and devices for configurable sequence usage for user equipment (UE) uplink reference signaling are provided. In one provided method, a transmission reception point (TRP) in a wireless communication network receives a first UL reference signal (RS) associated with a first UL RS sequence from a first UE and receives a second UL RS associated with a second UL RS sequence from a second UE, the first and second UL RS sequences being non-orthogonal. In another provided method, A UE determines an UL RS sequence based on a UL RS sequence root, the UL RS sequence root being a UE-specific root and being independent of a cell identifier of a cell serving the UE. The UE sends an UL RS associated with the UL RS sequence, the UL RS sequence being a Zadoff-Chu sequence.

Abstract: A master user equipment (UE) device may coordinate device-to-device (D2D) communications amongst a plurality of UE devices. For example, a UE device, which has been designated as a master UE device, may coordinate a D2D communication between a first UE device and a second UE device. The master UE device may be a UE device that obtains an indication that it is a master UE device that is to coordinate D2D communications amongst the plurality of UE devices. In some embodiments, the coordinating the D2D communication may be on behalf of a network and/or to facilitate wireless communication between the network and at least one of the plurality of UE devices.

Abstract: Networks use channel state information reference signals (CSI-RSs) to measure channel conditions between a user equipment (UE) and a transmit/receive point (TRP) in a cell. The resources configured for the transmission of a CSI-RS may be indicated to the UE using higher layer signaling. Measurement results for a CSI-RS are transmitted by the UE in the form of a measurement report. A need exists for signaling designs that aim to provide more flexible and efficient signaling of CSI-RS resource configurations and measurement reports. In some embodiments, CSI-RS resource configurations and measurement reports are resource-specific. The CSI-RS resource configurations may be independent from an identifier of the cell that the CSI-RS is transmitted from, and the measurement reports do not necessarily include the identifier of the cell. Advantages may include allowing the network to freely allocate CSI-RS resources without the need for reconfiguration at the UE side.

Some or all of these mechanisms can be used in implementing distributed open-loop multi-user co-operative multi-point (MU-CoMP) technology as well as other non-CoMP, one-tier or centralized wireless transmission technologies. The mechanisms are in line with proposed no-cell technology for 5G communication networks.
