Abstract:
Systems and methods are disclosed for enabling legacy devices to consistently and reliably operate within a distributed scan environment using proxy scan services. A proxy scan service is communicatively coupled between a scan management service and a scanner. Information transmitted between the scan management service and the scanner is intercepted at the proxy scan service, where the scan management service recognizes a first format message for the information and the scanner recognizes a second format message for the information. The information is converted at the proxy scan service between the first format message and the second format message. The transmission between the scan management service and the scanner is completed using the converted information.
Abstract:
A method of rapidly testing the discharge capacity of a battery comprises discharging the battery at a first discharge rate until a first cutoff potential is reached, relaxing the battery during a first period, discharging the battery at a lower discharge rate until a second cutoff potential is reached and relaxing the battery during a second, longer period. The process is repeated with successively lower discharge rates and successively longer relaxation periods until the battery is substantially exhausted. The cumulative value of all of the discharges is taken as a tested capacity of the battery. Optionally, cleanup charges can be sent to the battery during the relaxation periods and a low-frequency, low-amplitude current can be supplied throughout testing in order to shorten testing time.

Abstract:
Various systems and methods are described for operating an engine in a vehicle in response to an ambient humidity generated from an exhaust gas sensor. One example method comprises, during engine non-fueling conditions, where at least one intake valve and at least one exhaust valve of the engine are operating, generating an ambient humidity from the exhaust gas sensor and, under selected engine combusting conditions, adjusting an engine operating parameter based on the ambient humidity.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for adding support, to a device, for a new protocol which the device did not previously support is provided. Protocol information, which identifies how to add support for the protocol to the device, is stored. A protocol manager may read the protocol information and perform actions necessary for the new protocol to be supported by the device. For example, the protocol manager may create a listener, a message queue, and a protocol handler for the protocol based on the protocol information. The listener may receive a message, associated with the new protocol, that was sent to the device and store the message in a message queue. The message queue stores the message until the message is retrieved from the message queue by the protocol handler. The protocol handler, after retrieving a message from the message queue, may process the message.
Abstract:
A system for calibrating a response to an exhaust-stream NOx level in a motor vehicle is provided. The system comprises a NOx sensor that includes an electrode, a current from the electrode responsive to the exhaust-stream NOx level while a bias voltage is applied to the electrode. The system further comprises a controller configured to interrupt the bias voltage and to adjust a motor-vehicle response to the current based at least partly on an attained voltage of the electrode while the bias voltage is interrupted. Other embodiments provide a method of calibrating a NOx sensor response in terms of gain and offset parameters.
Abstract:
A method of operating a gas sensor is disclosed, wherein the sensor includes a pumping electrode configuration and a measuring electrode configuration, and wherein the method includes operating the sensor in a first mode in which a first, lower pumping potential sufficient to electrochemically remove an interfering compound from the sensor without electrochemically removing the analyte from the sensor is applied across the pumping electrode configuration and a measuring potential sufficient to electrochemically remove the analyte from the sensor is applied across the measuring electrode configuration; and operating the sensor in a second mode in which a second, higher pumping potential sufficient to electrochemically remove the analyte from the sensor is applied to the pumping electrode configuration.
Abstract:
An automatic shutdown system for optical multiplexers and demultiplexers includes an optical switch that is disposed in a common optical channel between a transmitter and a receiver of an optical communication system. The optical switch may attenuate or block a signal in the common optical channel during power-off conditions. The optical switch may also provide a low insertion loss and low polarization loss in the common optical channel during power-on conditions.

Abstract:
Improved methods of manufacturing semiconductor devices are provided to reduce dielectric loss in isolation trenches of the devices. In one example, a method of manufacturing a semiconductor device includes forming a plurality of shallow trench isolation (STI) trenches in a substrate. A tunnel oxide layer, a first conductive layer, a gate dielectric layer, and a second conductive layer are formed above the substrate. The layers are etched to delineate a plurality of stacked gate structures. In particular, the etching may include: performing a first etch of the second conductive layer, wherein at least a portion of the second conductive layer above the STI trenches remains following the first etch; and performing a second etch of the second conductive layer, wherein the remaining portion of the second conductive layer above the STI trenches and portions of the gate dielectric layer above the STI trenches are completely removed by the second etch.
