Abstract: Embodiments include a user equipment (UE) and methods performed by the UE. The methods include receiving a measurement configuration request from a network, in response to the measurement configuration request, measuring a quality of one or more uplink (UL) carrier aggregation (CA) combinations, wherein each UL CA combination comprises a plurality of component carriers, generating a message that includes the quality of the one or more UL CA combinations and transmitting the message to the network. Further embodiments include the above operations being performed as a set of instructions executed by a processor or an integrated circuit that includes circuitry to perform the operations.

Abstract: Aspects are described for a user equipment (UE) comprising a transceiver configured to enable wireless communication with a base station, and a processor communicatively coupled to the transceiver. The processor is configured to enter a radio resource control (RRC) idle mode. The processor is further configured to measure at least one cell of a set of cells in a sleep period, wherein the sleep period is indicated in a discontinuous reception (DRX) configuration message received from the base station. The processor is further configured to receive a UE information request from the base station responsive to entering an RRC connected mode and transmit results of the measurement to the base station responsive to the UE information request to enable faster carrier addition by a network the UE connects to.

Abstract: A device and method for a user equipment (UE) to implement power savings mechanisms when operating within a significant location. The UE identifies that the UE is at a significant location. The significant location is a location relative to a currently camped cell of a network. At a first time and at the significant location, the UE performs a type of operation related to the network connection. The UE stores information corresponding to the performance of the type of operation at the first time in a profile associated with the significant location. At a second time and at the significant location, the UE performs the type of operation related to the network connection. The performance of the type of operation at the second time is modified based on the information stored in the profile associated with the significant location.

Abstract: Methods related to an inactive state of a user equipment (UE). In one example, when an amount of data in an uplink buffer is less than a threshold, the data is sent to the network while remaining in the inactive state. In another example, when reselecting to a different cell, the UE attempts to reselect to the different cell and remain in the inactive state. When transitioning to a connected state at the reselected cell, the UE sends a resume request including an identification of the first cell. In another example, when a high priority or a background PLMN search is performed in the inactive state, the results are cached and implemented the earlier of when a timer expires or the UE enters an idle state. In another example, a cell reselection criteria is altered in the inactive state to make it less likely that a cell reselection will occur.

Abstract: The exemplary embodiments describe devices, systems and methods for implementing various exemplary techniques related to fifth generation (5G) new radio (NR) cell search. A user equipment (UE) selects a frequency band to scan during a cell search procedure and identifies a frequency within the frequency band that is associated with a synchronization signal block (SSB) based on an indication of the frequency stored locally at the UE prior to the cell search procedure. The UE then scans the frequency for the SSB and determines that the SSB has been broadcast by a cell over the frequency.

The UE determines that the UE is configured with one of a measurement gap or gapless measurements, identifies that a predetermined condition has been satisfied and implements a mitigation technique in response to identifying that the predetermined condition has been satisfied, wherein the mitigation technique includes omitting performing one of a measurement during the measurement gap or a gapless measurement, wherein the measurement or the gapless measurement corresponds to a first radio access technology (RAT) that is different than a second RAT on which the UE is currently camped.

Abstract: Activation or update of a subscriber identity module (SIM) via a roaming cellular wireless network by a mobile device includes the mobile device: determining a country of origin associated with a mobile network operator (MNO) for the SIM, determining a current geographic location of the mobile device, and when the current geographic location of the mobile device does not correspond to the country of origin for the MNO associated with the SIM of the eUICC, presenting an option to activate or update the SIM over a local roaming cellular wireless network. When the option is accepted, the mobile device enables a cellular data roaming capability for the mobile device, activates or updates the SIM via the local roaming cellular wireless network, and, after the SIM is activated or updated, disables the cellular data roaming capability for the mobile device.
