摘要: A timing signal distribution system includes an optical frequency stabilized laser signal amplitude modulated at an rf frequency. A transmitter box transmits a first portion of the laser signal and receive a modified optical signal, and outputs a second portion of the laser signal and a portion of the modified optical signal. A first optical fiber carries the first laser signal portion and the modified optical signal, and a second optical fiber carries the second portion of the laser signal and the returned modified optical signal. A receiver box receives the first laser signal portion, shifts the frequency of the first laser signal portion outputs the modified optical signal, and outputs an electrical signal on the basis of the laser signal. A detector at the end of the second optical fiber outputs a signal based on the modified optical signal. An optical delay sensing circuit outputs a data signal based on the detected modified optical signal. An rf phase detect and correct signal circuit outputs a signal corresponding to a phase stabilized rf signal based on the data signal and the frequency received from the receiver box.

摘要: The present invention relates to the. use of optimized magnet design, magnetic circuit design and wire coil design to improve latching reliability and reduce driving current for the switchable Faraday rotator devices. The geometrical parameters of semi-hard magnet are optimized to produce maximal magnetic field at the location of magneto-optic crystal and hence improve latching reliability and reduce driving current. The wire coil is optimized in coil length, wire gauge, and number of turns to produce most efficient energy transfer and hence reduce driving current and driving voltage. To reduce magnetic energy loss, soft magnetic material is included to form a magnetic conductive close loop and further reduces driving current requirements.

摘要: An atomic force microscope which can provide an automatic operation of focusing a laser beam onto a cantilever of the atomic force microscope, and which can ensure that a laser beam reflected off this cantilever is properly directed to a detector. A tip supported by the cantilever can also be automatically and properly lowered to a specimen. A piezotube scanner within such an atomic force microscope is also provided to prevent any damage from occurring if any leakage of an aqueous solution containing the specimen occurs.

摘要: Timing control resolution between two communications devices is provided by assigning each device to one of a plurality of priorities and by transmitting an identification of this priority to the other communications device. The determination of which device is the master and which device is the slave is then resolved by comparing the received and transmitted identifications from the contending devices to a predetermined ranking of identification signals. When such identifications signals are the same, each device randomly selects an identification signal from a group of such signals. Preferably this group includes all of the identification signals except that transmitted in the immediately prior contention round. The received and transmitted identifications signals from the contending devices are then compared to the predetermined ranking of identification signals. This random selection of identification signals, transmission and comparison are repeated until the transmitted and received identifications signals are different and contention is resolved or a predetermined number of contention rounds is reached.

摘要: A bridge connected to an FDDI network preprocesses messages each comprising source address (SA), destination address (DA) and data, using a data base of SA's maintained in a content addressable memory (CAM). A finite state machine working with the other elements of the FDDI bridge acts as an intelligent controller, to select which messages are to be passed to a buffer memory for further processing and ultimate transmission to a remote network. Messages are only passed to the buffer memory if the DA is different from the SA's stored in the CAM. Circuitry is advantageously provided not only to "teach" the CAM about SA's on the network, but also to monitor information relating to the the last activity in a station associated with a particular SA, so that "stale" SA's can be purged from the CAM.
