摘要: A device for the topical delivery of nitric oxide gas to an infected area of skin includes a source of nitric oxide gas, a bathing unit, a flow control valve, and a vacuum unit. The bathing unit is adapted to surround the area of the infected skin and form a substantially air-tight seal with the skin surface. The bathing unit is also in fluidic communication with the source of nitric oxide. The flow control valve is position downstream of the source of nitric oxide and upstream of the bathing unit. The flow control valve controls the amount of nitric oxide gas that is delivered to the bathing unit. The vacuum unit is positioned downstream of the bathing unit and is used to withdraw gas from the bathing unit. Application of nitric oxide gas to the infected area of skin reduces levels of bacteria in the infected area and promotes the healing process.

摘要: A portable isocapnia circuit and an isocapnia method. A breathing port of the circuit allows a subject to inhale and exhale. Connected to the breathing port, a bifurcate conduit has a first conduit branch and a second conduit branch. The first conduit branch has an atmospheric air inlet, from which the atmospheric air is provided for inhalation, an inspiratory check valve to allow a one-way flow of the atmospheric air, and an atmospheric air aspirator. The second conduit branch has a one-way expiratory check valve and a expiratory gas reservoir. A one-way check valve is used to interconnect the first and second conduit branch, from which the expiratory gas stored in the expiratory gas reservoir flows to the first conduit branch to mix with the atmospheric air when the minute ventilation exceeds the atmospheric air.

摘要: A method and apparatus for ventilator pressure and optimization administers fixed stepwise pressure changes to the lungs of a patient and measures the lung volume change resulting from each pressure change. Critical opening pressure, critical closing pressure, and overdistention pressure are determined by changes in lung volume corresponding to the fixed stepwise pressure changes.

摘要: The present invention relates to a liquid nitric oxide releasing solution (NORS) comprised of at least one nitric oxide releasing compound and at least one acidifying agent, wherein the NORS provides an extended release of a therapeutically effective amount of nitric oxide gas (gNO). The present invention also relates to a liquid NORS comprised of at least one nitrite compound having a concentration of no greater than about 0.5% w/v and at least one acidifying agent, wherein the NORS releases a therapeutically effective amount of gNO. The present invention also relates to a method for the treatment of a wound in a human, the method comprising administering to the human a liquid NORS comprised of at least one nitric oxide releasing compound and at least one acidifying agent, wherein the NORS provides an extended release of a therapeutically effective amount of gNO. The present invention also relates to a method for the treatment, prevention, or reduction of incidence of a disease or disorder in a human in need thereof, the method comprising administering to the human a liquid NORS comprised of at least one nitrite compound at a concentration of no greater than about 0.5% w/v and at least one acidifying agent, wherein the NORS releases a therapeutically effective amount of gNO.

摘要: A gas flow regulating device including a housing assembly, an inlet tube assembly, and a biasing device. The housing assembly has a main housing, a valve seat body, and a distal plate forming an outlet orifice. The inlet tube assembly includes a proximal inlet end, a tube forming a lumen, and a flange, and is slidably disposed within the main housing, biased to an open state by the biasing device. The flange separates middle and constant pressure chambers within the housing assembly. The inlet tube assembly is transitionable to a closed state in response to pressure in the constant pressure chamber to generate a relatively constant flow rate of air exiting the device via the outlet orifice.

摘要: A respiratory apparatus including an adapter assembly and a catheter assembly. The adapter assembly includes ventilator, respiratory, access, and flush ports. The access port includes a conduit defining a passageway. The flush port projects from the conduit and is fluidly open to the passageway at an outlet. The catheter assembly includes a catheter assembled to a fitting. The fitting includes a hub and a tube, with the tube defining an exterior surface, an interior surface forming a lumen, a circumferential groove in the exterior surface, and a plurality of apertures fluidly open to the lumen and the circumferential groove. The tube is sized to be slidably received within the passageway such that upon final assembly, a fluid pathway is formed between the flush port and a distal end of the catheter via the flush port outlet, the circumferential groove, the plurality of apertures, and the lumen.

摘要: A minimally invasive tracheal fluid removal device and corresponding method of use for removing accumulated subglottic secretions in an intubated patient's endotracheal tube. The device may be configured as a dual-track or single-tube suction guidance system. This device presents a significant improvement over the art as it eliminates the need to reintubate the patient each time the suction mechanism is removed to be cleaned.
