    摘要: An autoinflating catheter and balloon assembly having an autoregulating structure to prevent overinflation of the balloon as a result of variable fluid flow rates through the catheter lumen. A tight-fitting elastomeric balloon is provided on the distal end of the catheter body, and the assembly is constructed so that at least a portion of the fluid flow through the lumen is directed to the balloon to inflate it. As the balloon is inflated, more and more of the fluid flow through the catheter is discharged from the catheter, thereby preventing overinflation of the balloon.

    摘要: An arterial line blood filter for use in extracorporeal blood circuits during heart bypass surgery has, among other components, a housing with a cap portion, a base portion, and a generally cylindrical wall portion. The blood filter has a filter element disposed within the housing. An inlet is positioned at an upward angle with respect to the housing and includes an opening in the generally cylindrical wall portion in fluid communication with the inlet chamber. In some embodiments the position of the inlet limits the pressure drop and prime volume of the filter. According to one embodiment, the cap portion has an upwardly sloping inner surface and there is a vent in the cap portion. The inner surface of the cap portion can have a projection proximate the vent configured to limit immobilization of gaseous microemboli within the inlet chamber.

    摘要: Methods and devices for forming a lesion in a target tissue having a cavity within. A first RF electrode and a second RF electrode can be coupled to opposite poles of an RF current source. The second electrode can be inserted into the tissue cavity and expanded to contact the target tissue from within. The first electrode can be externally disposed against the target tissue while applying RF current between the first and second electrodes to ablate the target tissue. Some methods are directed to ablating tribiculated atrial wall tissue to treat atrial fibrillation. The second electrode can contact the tribiculated tissue directly from within to provide a direct path between the two electrodes. In some methods, the second electrode is inserted through an incision made to remove an atrial appendage. The methods can provide deeper, narrower lesions relative to those made using remote, indifferent electrodes. Atrial fibrillation ablation procedures can be performed using the invention, requiring fewer incisions than conventional methods.

With this construction, a plurality of self-closing clips can be simultaneously deployed in a manner effectuating, for example, an end-to-side anastomosis.

    摘要: A catheter assembly having a selectively occluded and vented lumen is provided. The catheter includes an obturator for preventing the back flow of fluid from the distal tip of the catheter into a balloon provided on the body of the catheter. The catheter has at least one groove for venting the balloon during the process of inserting the catheter assembly into fluid under pressure. The combination of the obturator and the venting groove prohibits premature inflation of the balloon by pressurized fluid entering the distal end of the catheter and also enables for the venting of any air entrapped inside the balloon prior to inflation thereof. When incorporated into a retrograde cardioplegia solution catheter, this structure dramatically reduces the force needed to insert the catheter assembly into the coronary sinus and also reduces trauma to the tissue of the coronary sinus during the insertion process.

    摘要: An apparatus for the sanitary simultaneous removal of a plurality of indwelling tubes from an implantation site in a patient comprises a tube adapter that is connectable to the indwelling tubes. An impervious sleeve is fan-folded into a hub which extends around the tube adapter. In assembly the folded sleeve is retained by a shrink-wrapped plastic film. The sleeve can be extended for receiving the indwelling tubes therethrough and to encompass the implantation site. The indwelling tube and the implantation site are isolated from the environment when the distal open end of the sleeve is extended and applied about the implantation site and the indwelling tube is withdrawn into the sleeve. A drawstring is provided for closing the distal end of the sleeve after the tube has been withdrawn. The indwelling tubes can be maintained under suction or in connection with a drain during the removal operation.
