An alphanumeric display includes a substrate that has top and bottom surfaces, a plurality of electrical contacts on the top surface, a plurality of light-emitting electronic devices mounted on the top surface, and a plurality of electrical pads on the bottom surface. The electrical contacts are connected to at least one light-emitting electronic device, and each of the light-emitting electronic devices is electrically connected with corresponding ones of the electrical contacts. The electrical pads are electrically connected to corresponding ones of the electrical contacts for communicating to the light-emitting electronic devices external sources of electrical power and control signals. The electrical pads on the bottom surface are arranged in a pattern to facilitate connections to the device using a conductive adhesive.
Abstract:
A system for electrically isolating and indicating electrical isolation of a machine including a plurality of relays which cooperate to, when electrical isolation is selected, ground voltage input lines to the machine thereby ensuring that no power is provided to the machine during operator access thereto.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method of providing a seal between an aircraft structure (14) and a removable panel (26) mountable on the structure to close an opening (12) therein. According to the invention, the method comprises applying a sealant compound (28) for example a polysulphide rubber compound, to one of the structure and the panel, forming a rebate (46) in the sealant compound, and providing a sealant tape (48) to fit within the rebate. Subsequently, the panel is fastened to the structure with the seal (50) comprising the sealant compound and the sealant tape being sandwiched between the structure and the panel and encircling the opening.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method of assembling a structure, particularly those structures requiring very tight tolerances. The structure may be assembled by positioning shim material on at least part of a sub-structure, curing the shim material in situ, machining the cured shim material to a desired thickness, and then assembling outer layer parts to the sub-structure such that the shim material is situated between the substructure and the outer parts. The shim material may be machined to different thicknesses at different locations on the sub-structure, so that, when assembled, the outer layer parts together conform to a predetermined profile. This is especially advantageous in the manufacture of airframes, where the outer layer panels must provide a smooth surface to avoid unwanted aerodynamic effects.
Abstract:
A cell culture media container is provided. The container comprises a body constructed from flexible film and defining a containment area for containing the cell culture media, the body including a front face and a back face, the front and back face being sealed to each other along at least three sides thereof. The container includes a fill port for filling the containment area with cell culture media, the port being sealed to a face of the body and being so constructed and arranged that it extends from the face normal thereto. The container is constructed from a high barrier, optically clear, radiation sterilizable film.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for installing pipes. The apparatus is a clamp for hanging or supporting pipe. The clamp comprises a base and a seat for receiving a pipe. The seat comprises at least two load bearing members adapted to receive the pipe. The clamp further comprises at least two side support members extending upward from the base at an oblique angle with respect to the base. The two support members each comprise an upwardly extending arm for receiving the pipe and wherein each upwardly extending arm forms an aperture for receiving a fastener to secure the pipe within the clamp. The clamp preferably comprises an integral, one-piece unit. Methods of making a pipe clamp and installing a pipe also are disclosed.
Abstract:
Embodiments for at least one method and apparatus of generating a regulated voltage are disclosed. One apparatus includes a voltage regulator. The voltage regulator includes regulator circuitry for generating a regulated voltage from a first power supply and a second power supply, and voltage spike protection circuitry for voltage-spike-protecting the regulator circuitry. The voltage spike protection circuitry includes a charge-storage circuit, and at least one switching element, wherein the at least one switching element comprises a plurality of switching block segments. The charge-storage circuit includes charge-storage circuit segments, and each charge-storage circuit segment is physically closer to at least one of the plurality of switching block segments the charge-storage circuit segment protects, than any other switching block segment.
Abstract:
A multi-function impactor for use with an orthopaedic implant, such as a knee joint, is described. The head of the impactor has a pair of curved recesses for mating with condylar parts of a femoral implant and flat faces for mating with a tibial implant. An extended formation is also provided for use with the inter-condylar notch of the femoral implant. A v-shaped notch in the extended formation is also provided to impact a tibial insert. The impactor can be made from a single moulded plastics part.
