摘要: A motion limiter (2) for use with a short leg walker (4) includes a threaded shaft (20) passing freely through a hole (42) in a sliding block or guide (36) that is pivotally attached preferably to an upper part (6) of the walker. The lower end (28) of the shaft is preferably pivotally mounted in a recess (34) in the lower portion (10) of the walker and the remainder of the shaft is free to slide within the hole in the sliding block within a recess (26) in the upper part of the walker. The position of stop members (64, 68), threaded to the shaft above and below the block, determine the amount or fraction of the shaft permitted to pass through the hole in the sliding block. As the stop members are positioned along the shaft relatively far apart from one another, a greater length of the threaded shaft is permitted to pass through the sliding block, thereby increasing the range of motion of the walker. Conversely, as the stop members are moved relatively closer together, the range of motion decreases. If the stop members are positioned so as to abut the sliding block, no range of motion is permitted. The stop members may be positioned by a user without using tools.

摘要: Our improved nozzle mounting comprises a support member for the nozzle secured to the projecting end of the innermost or granular material carrying conduit. The nozzle is mounted on a horizontally disposed pivot, carried by said support member. Granular material is conveyed from the lower end of the granular conveying pipe to the nozzle through a flexible member and water is supplied to the mixing nozzle by means of a flexible water pipe or hose. Our improved mixing nozzle mounting is simpler in construction than the one shown in our aforesaid patent and hence is cheaper to construct and maintain inasmuch as we have eliminated various rotary seals, gears and the like.

摘要: An improved apparatus for controlled application of granular refractory material to the linings of ladles, furnaces, and other open top vessels employed in the handling of molten metals. The apparatus comprises a generally vertically arranged pair of telescopically related conduits, there being a nozzle on the lower end of the innermost conduit. Granular material is supplied to the upper end of the innermost conduit and water is supplied through a member to the upper end of the outer conduit and from the lower end of the outer conduit to the nozzle. Means is provided for rotating the conduits and hence the nozzle. Other means is provided for raising and lowering the nozzle and the entire apparatus may be suspended from a crane or the like over the vessel whose lining is to be coated, repaired, filled, etc. The invention is characterized by the fact that the apparatus is capable of being so used that the operator may apply the material to any seleced area of the surface being treated, whereby cracks, holes, or other defective areas of the lining may be repaired as distinguished from having to apply the granular material to the entire surface in order to repair one area of the same.

摘要: A method and apparatus position a plurality of data heads relative to a plurality of surfaces of at least one disc in a disc drive. One of the plurality of data heads corresponds to each of the plurality of surfaces. The data heads are provided for writing information to the surfaces and reading information from the surfaces. Each of the data heads may be simultaneously positioned relative to the corresponding surfaces using the embedded servo information. Information can be simultaneously transferred relative to the corresponding surfaces using the plurality of data heads. Uninterrupted sequential data transfers may also be executed without servo overhead. Further, an apparatus is provided for accomplishing such servo control, as is a method of accomplishing model-based servo control.

摘要: A system and method validate a model used in implementing a model-based servo controller in a disc drive. A nominal model is first constructed. The nominal model is augmented with an uncertainty description to characterize variations in drives to be manufactured. The model is constrained by performance objectives. Weights corresponding to the uncertainty description and performance objectives are adjusted based on a comparison between a .mu. matrix function and a .mu..sub.g matrix function until a desired performance level is achieved while maintaining stability in a desired frequency range.
