    摘要： Composition useful for molding into articles such as food containers, beverage bottles, cured structural plastics and the like comprising molding grade linear or unsaturaged polyester or polycarbonate having reacted therewith or copolymerized therein the residue of one or more benzodioxylmethine compounds having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is cyano, carboxy, alkenyloxycarbonyl or an unsubstituted or substituted alkoxycarbonyl, cycloalkoxycarbonyl or aryloxycarbonyl radical;R.sup.2 is one of the groups specified for R.sup.1 or an unsubstituted or substituted aryl, carbamoyl, alkanoyl, cycloalkanoyl, aroyl, alkylsulfonyl, cycloalkylsulfonyl, arylsulfonyl or heterocyclic aryl radical;R.sup.3 is hydrogen or an unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl radical;R.sup.4 is hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, or halogen;n is 1 or 2; andX is an unsubstituted or substituted methylene or ethylene radical; provided the benzodioxolylmethine compound bears at least one substituent that is reactive with one of the monomers from which the condensation polymer is derived, said benzodioxylmethine residue absorbing radiation in the range of about 250 nm to 390 nm and being nonextractable from said polymer and stable under polymer processing conditions.The benzodioxylmethine residues are present in the polymer as an integral part of the polymer chain and absorb ultraviolet radiation in the range of about 250 to about 390 nm. The residues are nonextractable from the polymer and stable at the conditions at which the polymers are manufactured and processed.

    摘要： Colored shapable polyesters having copolymerized therein lignin or lignin derivatives are prepared by condensing the lignin or lignin derivatives into the polyester backbone during the polymerization reaction. The lignin moieties are thermally stable at the polymer processing temperatures and are nonextractable from the polyester backbone. These colored, shapable polyesters are particularly suitable for use in food, beverage, pharmaceutical, or cosmetic container applications.

    摘要： A composition useful for incorporation into polymer compositions employed for food packaging or the like comprising a bis- or tris-methine compound having the structural formula ##STR1## wherein A is selected from the radicals ##STR2## wherein R' and R" are each selected from chlorine, bromine, fluorine, alkyl, alkoxy, aryl, aryloxy and arylthio;each n is independently 0, 1, 2;R.sub.1 is selected from a large variety of radicals such as cycloalkyl, phenyl, and straight or branched alkyl which may be substituted;R.sub.2 is alkylene or the like;R.sub.3, R.sub.4, and R.sub.5 are each selected from hydrogen and alkyl; andP and Q and P.sup.1 and Q.sup.1 are selected from cyano, carbalkoxy, carbaryloxy, carbaralkyloxy, or the like.The invention compositions are especially useful in combination with molding or fiber-grade condensation polymer; most preferably such polymer having copolymerized therein a total of from 1.0 to about 100,000 ppm, of the reactant residue moieties of one or more of such bis- or tris-methine compounds.
