Abstract:
A method and apparatus for scheduling the calibration, repair, maintenance or upgrade of one or more instruments is described. The method and apparatus includes a timer function that initiates a scan of a transaction database, looking for any transaction that is about to be due, is due or is past due, and upon finding such, initiates a pop-up message at the monitor of an operator that is associated with that transaction, so that the operator will know that they need to perform the associated activity on the associated instrument. Within the pop-up may be a link to directly access a calibration, repair, maintenance or upgrade procedure and possibly a link to a manual for the instrument.
Abstract:
A display with light elements comprises a substrate layer and a display layer. The substrate layer comprises a power source, a plurality of light elements interconnected to the power source, and a controller interconnected to the power source and light elements. The substrate layer may be formed of flexible material. The controller is operable to activate at least a first light element to a different illumination state relative to at least a second light element. The display layer is interconnected to the substrate, covers at least a substantial portion of the substrate, said contains text and/or graphics covering at least a substantial portion thereof. The display layer may be formed of flexible material. At least one of the light sources is visible through the display layer when the light source is activated. The power source may include a solar cell and/or a battery. In embodiments in which the power source comprises both a battery and solar cell, the solar cell may be used to recharge the battery to operate the light elements and controller in low light conditions.
Abstract:
Abrasive tools contain abrasive grains oriented in an array according to a non-uniform pattern having an exclusionary zone around each abrasive grain, and the exclusionary zone has a minimum dimension that exceeds the maximum diameter of the desired grit size range for the abrasive grain. Methods for designing such a self-avoiding array of abrasive grain and for transferring such an array to an abrasive tool body are described.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for sensing the temperature of the rotor magnets of an electric motor are provided to facilitate the determination of motor performance characteristics such as the torque of the rotor.
Abstract:
A metallocene catalyst may be temporarily and reversibly passivated by contact with an effective amount of an unsaturated hydrocarbon passivating compound.
Abstract:
Modules included in a UPS system can communicate over a Controller Area Network using messages having separate fields within an arbitration field. In particular, the separate fields can be separate priority fields, separate module identifier fields, and separate source and destination routing fields. The separate priority field can allow identical message types having different priority to be transmitted within the UPS system. For example, in a UPS system according to the invention, a rectifier off command can have greater priority than a rectifier reset command. The separate module identifier fields can uniquely identify the location of a module in the UPS system which transmitted the message. For example, the module identifier can be provided by customized wiring in a wiring harness connected to a respective communications interface circuit. The separate destination routing fields can be used to transmit messages to and from bridges in the UPS system. The message can also include separate data fields that organize the data into data categories and subcategories.
Abstract:
The invention relates to grinding tools, particularly to grinding wheels having an annular band of abrasive material at their periphery and provides an improved method of manufacture. A mixture of abrasive material, temporary binder and ceramic bond is heated to paste-like consistency and then coated on to the desired part of a support member, e.g. on to hub (5) of wheel (4) in the form of an annular band (11). The coated support member is then fired to drive off the temporary binder whereby the coating is firmly bonded to the support member.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are disclosed for more accurately estimating a remaining useful life (RUL) of an item. The RUL of the item is estimated by determining probability values throughout a time period. Each probability value quantifies a probability that a failure event of the item will occur by a time in a time segment of the time period. Based on the probability values, the particular time segment in which the failure event is most likely to occur is determined. Once the particular time segment is determined, the presentation of a visual representation of at least a portion of the time period can be effected. The visual representation indicates that the failure event of the item is most likely to occur during the particular time segment.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the present disclosure generally pertain to hoisting systems and methods for vehicles, such as UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters (“Black Hawks”). An external hoist arm system in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure is configured to be temporarily mounted to the outside of a vehicle. The hoist arm system is further configured to support a hoist and position the hoist above an external door of the vehicle. A rotatable adjustment member is used to adjust an angular position of the hoist relative to the vehicle.
