摘要: This is in the general field of surgical instruments and is, specifically, a microballoon-tipped delivery catheter with a flexible, proximally-manipulated hinge or joint region. The catheter may have a shaft of varying flexibility which contains several lumen. The inner, or delivery, lumen generally may be used with a guide wire to access target sites within the body via the flexible, small diameter vessels of the body. The delivery lumen may be also used for placement of occlusive materials, e.g., in an aneurysm. Inflation of the micro-balloon, located near the distal tip of the catheter, is effected using the inflation lumen. The push/pull wire lumen contains a wire, which when manipulated, flexes the catheter's distal tip.

摘要: This is a catheter device for delivering vaso-occlusive materials or devices to a desired site with the body. The catheter is a single lumen valved balloon catheter that enhances the accurate placement of the vaso-occlusive material or device. The balloon may be positioned such that it blocks the opening to a vascular malformation such as an aneurysm. In one embodiment, the balloon is automatically inflated as the vaso-occlusive material or device engages a constrictive feature near the distal end as the device is discharged. The catheter device may also have a lengthened distal section that may be placed within the malformation or aneurysm to improving the filling capability of the device. The catheter device may be constructed to have a number of advantageous radioopaque markers to aid in accurately discharging the vaso-occlusive material or device.

摘要: A system and method for determining a pH level of blood in a vessel of a patient including a flexible elongated member configured and dimensioned for insertion in the vessel of the patient, a sensor positioned at the distal portion of the elongated member, and a connector connecting the elongated member to an indicator. The sensor measures the pH level of blood downstream of the blood clot. A system and method are also provided for determining a density of a blood clot in a vessel of a patient for subsequent selection of a treatment method. The system includes a sensor positioned at the distal portion of the elongated member, and a connector connecting the elongated member to an indicator, wherein the sensor determines the density of the blood clot and the indicator provides an indication of the density of the clot.

摘要: Methods and apparatus for creating fluid flow from one location to another are disclosed. The fluid flow is created via the absorption of repetitive pulses of radiation in a fluid to generate bubbles that expand and collapse repetitively. This fluid mechanism, or pumping phenomenon, can be used to aid removal of a total or partial occlusion in a body passage by disrupting a surface of the occlusion with acoustic shock and pressure waves and/or by causing mechanical disruption of the occlusive material. Appropriate selection of materials and particular constructions improve apparatus flexibility.

摘要: The invention encompasses methods and apparatus for pumping fluid from one location to another through the repetitive expansion and collapse of bubbles generated as a result of the absorption of repetitive pulses of radiation in a fluid. This pumping phenomenon can be used to aid removal of a total or partial occlusion in a body passage by emulsifying the occlusion with acoustic shock and pressure waves or by mechanically disrupting the occlusive material.

摘要: A rotational thrombectomy wire for breaking up vascular thrombus or other obstructive material having a core having a proximal region and a distal region and being rotatable by a motor. The distal region has a smaller diameter than the proximal region. A cable is coupled to the distal region of the core and extends distally thereof. A torque tube is positioned over the cable and a coil is positioned over a distal portion of the cable. A distal portion of the cable has a non-linear configuration. A first covering material is positioned over the coil.

摘要: This is an implantable vaso-occlusive device. The device has a complex, three-dimensional structure in a relaxed configuration that may be used in the approximate shape of an anatomical cavity. It may be deployed in the approximate shape of a sphere, an ovoid, a clover, a box-like structure or other distorted spherical shape. The loops forming the relaxed configuration may pass through the interior of the structure. The device is a self-forming shape made from a pre-formed linear vaso-occlusion member. Fibers may be introduced onto the device and affixed to the pre-formed linear member. The constituent member may be also be covered with a fibrous braid. The device is typically introduced through a catheter. The device is passed axially through the catheter sheath and assumes its form upon exiting the catheter without further action. The invention also includes methods of winding the anatomically shaped vaso-occlusive device into appropriately shaped forms and annealing them to form various devices.

摘要: Apparatus for pumping fluid from one location to another via generation of bubbles in fluid, and expansion and callapse thereof, are described. These apparatus deliver repetitive pulses of radiation to a fluid to form bubbles therein. The expansion and collapse of the bubbles cause fluid motion or pumping. This pumping can be used to facilitate removal of a total or partial occlusion in a body passage by a variety of mechanisms. The apparatus are flexible to facilitate use within a body passage.

The system includes an outer housing, a first cylindrical fenestrated member within and immovable relative to the outer housing, a second cylindrical fenestrated member defining an inner tissue collection chamber and being positioned within and rotatable relative to the first cylindrical fenestrated member, a plunger axially movable within the second fenestrated member, an elongate rod being connected to the plunger, and one or more stop units attached to the outer housing. The present invention also relates to methods for separating components of a tissue sample using a system according to the present invention.
