    摘要: Even in an optical disk which includes, within a single disk, plural record areas whose track-pitches differ from each other, a tracking parameter is adjusted in a short time and with a high accuracy. At first, an optical pickup for reading information recorded in the optical disk is displaced into a reference track-pitch area which is one of the plural record areas of the optical disk. Moreover, the tracking gain is adjusted so that the tracking servo gain in this area may exhibit a predetermined characteristic. Also, the value thus acquired is recorded into, e.g., a non-volatile memory. After that, based on the tracking parameter learned/adjusted in the reference track-pitch area, the tracking parameter in another track-pitch area is calculated using the track-pitch ratio therebetween. Thereby it becomes possible to adjust the tracking parameter in a short time and with a high accuracy.

    摘要: A quick retry operation is possible by outputting an error flag pertaining to a sector after error correction processing of digital data. When an output of an error detection flag unit for a correction block indicates the existence of an uncorrectable error, the sectors are checked to see if the sectors corresponding to retrieved data include any error or not based on output from a sector error flag register B. When the sectors are judged as error, signals are retrieved again from a storage medium, restored in a memory, and an error correction processing is repeated again. The data such as that of P pictures or B pictures of MPEG which can be reproduced even with errors are output even when the error detection flag unit indicates the existence of the uncorrectable error. It enables identification of the sectors with the errors and simplifies the following operations pertaining to the error at a data receiving side by outputting the error flag along with the data.

    摘要: In the related art, writing of BCA data has been performed by a BCA cutter or the like after a user data area was formed. However, according to such a method, individual steps cannot help being provided for a disc manufacturing step in order to form the BCA. A burden on the disc manufacturer is large from a viewpoint of the number of disc producing steps and, further, manufacturing costs. By using a bit forming method similar to a user data area, the BCA manufacturing steps can be reduced. Specifically speaking, by devising a pit depth, a pit width, and a pit pattern, a modulation degree of a BCA portion can be further increased. A detecting method similar to that for the BCA in the related art can be applied.

    摘要: On an optical disk medium, a spare area is allocated separately from a recording area. If the recording area includes a defective sector, alternate recording for the defective sector is performed in the spare area. An optical disk drive comprises: a medium information acquisition part which acquires, from the optical disk medium, medium information specific to the medium; and an area size determination part which determines the spare-area size suitable for the medium on the basis of the acquired medium information. The medium information is information about, for example, a media manufacturer, and a media type number. Further, there is provided a table which stores the relationship between the medium information and the optimum size of the spare area.
