摘要: A read-out information signal read out from an optical disk carrier is digitized, thereby detecting an amplitude of an absolute value of a phase error between the read-out information signal and a synchronized clock signal. The synchronized clock signal is obtained by using a phase locked loop constituted by a phase detector having two outputs, that is, a phase lead and a phase lag, and a VCO operating at an average value of a differential signal representing a difference between the two outputs. A phase error amplitude is detected from a sum signal representing a sum of the two outputs of this phase detector. By appropriately displacing a focus actuator in a state where a focus control is performed, an offset compensation amount where the phase error amplitude becomes minimum is obtained.

摘要: A record medium according to the present invention includes a substrate having concave or convex information pits and a thermosensitive material film formed on the substrate. The thermosensitive material film is changed from a high reflectance state to a low reflectance state when its temperature becomes a high level and returns to the high reflectance state when its temperature decreases to a low level. In the case where information is reproduced, when a light beam having a predetermined power is irradiated to the record medium, heat generated by the light beam is confined in the pits and the temperature in the pits increases; the thermosensitive material on the pits becomes the low reflectance state. The flat portions between the pits has high heat radiation and thus, the temperature in the flat portions does not increase so much; therefore, the state of the thermosensitive material film on the flat portions is not changed. Thus, an optical power of reflected light from the pits to which a light beam is irradiated is decreased, so that an amplitude of a reproduced signal is increased.

摘要: In a first optical disk, a plurality of sets of bit information record cells, each cell including a plurality of bit information record cells, and a plurality of clock marks are formed along a track line on a substrate, and the bit information record cells are formed for example as pits, wherein the recording or reading of a bit of information to or from the bit information record cells is effected with a laser head. The information record cells are arranged at mutual intervals smaller than the minimum read distance of the laser head, while the clock marks are provided so as to have a distance from a set of bit information record cell which is larger than the minimum read distance of the laser head so that the clock marks can be recognized by the laser head to be used for synchronization. Then, the recording density can be improved. In a second optical disk, track recognition marks are arranged as d spiral at equiangular distances so that there are an odd number of track recognition marks per track unit. Thus, even if the track pitch is on the order of the minimum read distance, the distance between adjacent wobble marks becomes is about double the minimum read distance so that the wobble marks can be recognized independently for tracking error detection.

摘要: A system for encoding/decoding an 8-bit binary code into/from a 4/11 channel code is disposed such that an 8-bit binary code is encoded into a 11-bit channel code by adding a 3-bit extension code as a parity code which keeps the number of "1"s in the channel code at four. When the 8-bit binary code cannot be encoded by this rule, it is converted to a temporary 8-bit code by a table encoder and then a 3-bit extension code is added. The 4/11 channel code is decoded referring to the 3-bit extension code, which indicates the encoding rule by which the 4/11 channel code has been generated. When the 4/11 channel code is detected to have been encoded by the bits-adding rule, an original 8-bit binary code is derived from the 4/11 code by removing the 3-bit extension code. When the 4/11 channel code has been encoded by the table-encoding rule, it is decoded by a table decoder.

摘要: An optical head for a recording/reproducing apparatus optically recording and/or reading information onto or from a recording medium, collimates a divergent light beam radiated from a light source into a parallel light beam using a collimator lens comprised of the first and second lenses. Collimation can precisely be adjusted by adjusting only the position of second lens. The first lens is a positive lens. The second lens has a power less than the total power of the collimator lens. Collimation adjustment can be done with extreme accuracy even when disposing a prism in the path of the parallel light beam.

摘要: A most probable path is selected from a number n (where n≧2) of paths of state transitions occurring from a first state Sk−j (where k≧3 and j≧2) at a time k−j into a second state Sk at a time k. The method includes the steps of detecting predetermined combinations of the first and second states Sk−j and Sk defining the n probable paths in a predetermined period j between the times k−j and k, and evaluating the reliability of a read signal, decoded in the period j, by |Pa−Pb|. Pa and Pb indicate the probabilities of state transition of first and second state transition paths in the period j. The first and second state transition paths are estimated to be the most probable and the second most probable, respectively, among the n probable paths defined by the combinations detected.
