摘要: Defects in an image forming system may give rise to visible streaks, or one-dimensional defects in an image that run parallel to the process direction. One known method for compensating for streaks introduces a separate tone reproduction curve for each pixel column in the process direction. A compensation pattern according to this invention has alignment marks before and after a halftone compensation region. The alignment marks provide alignment between the printer pixel grid and a scanning pixel grid. The line width of each alignment mark and the gray level in each pixel column of each gray level portion is measured and analyzed to produce a local tone reproduction curve for each pixel column and associated line width. The line widths of the alignment marks can be remeasured to adjust the local tone reproduction curves to compensate for the streak defect when printing.

摘要: A system and method of determining a residual toner mass on a receiving member includes providing one or more test patterns to the receiving member, transferring the test patterns from the receiving member to a transfer medium, determining a sensor signal obtained after transfer, processing the sensor signal obtained after transfer and determining an amount of residual toner mass based on the processed sensor signal. A xerographic marking device also includes a receiving member, an array-type optical sensor or a point optical sensor arranged on the receiving member, and a controller that generates one or more test patterns, transfers the test patterns to a transfer medium, determines a sensor signal obtained after the transfer by the optical sensors, processes the determined sensor signal, and determines an amount of residual toner mass based on the processed sensor signal.

摘要: A system and method for adjusting a transport path length of a continuous web of recording media in a printing system printing duplex images. The method includes detecting alignment marks, for instance top of form (TOF) marks, on the continuous web of print media and adjusting the path length to provide substantially accurate registration of first and second images on opposite sides of the web for duplex imaging. The system to adjust path length includes idler rollers movable with respect to turnbar rollers.

摘要: Engine response curves (RCs) can be used for streak compensation for printed documents. A feedback control paradigm can be included to effect RC compensation. Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) can be used to represent each RC in the collection of spatial RC data as a linear combination of basis vectors. RCs are approximated by selecting the first few basis vectors, the approximation aiding in noise rejection and reducing computation in the controller by reducing dimensionality of the RC data from gray levels to the number of SVD bases selected. An optimal subset of RCs is selectable from the set of approximated RCs by clustering the SVD weights, the clustered SVD weights producing TRCs that span all engine response RCs generated by a printer. Compensation RCs are constructible using reduced number of bases and clustered SVD weights.

摘要: A method enables a controller to align printheads in a printer. The method includes identifying a first cross-process position for each printhead in a plurality of printheads in a printer with reference to image data of a test pattern printed by the plurality of printheads on a media substrate, identifying a second cross-process position for each printhead in the plurality of printheads, calculating a printhead cross-process position error between the identified first cross-process position and the identified second cross-process position for each printhead, comparing a maximum printhead cross-process position error to a predetermined threshold, and operating a plurality of actuators with reference to the calculated printhead cross-process position errors to reposition the printheads in the plurality of printheads in response to the maximum printhead cross-process position error being equal to or less than the predetermined threshold.
