    摘要: A system for powerline networking. The system has an external data source, which is derived from a world wide networks of computers. A router is coupled to the external data source and coupled to a first datasource connection. A powerline network switch apparatus is coupled to the first datasource connection. The apparatus has a second datasource connection, which is coupled to the first data source connection. The apparatus also has a powerline device coupled to the second datasource connection. Preferably, the powerline device is adapted to receive and transmit information in a first format from the second data source connection and adapted to receive and transmit information in a second format. The apparatus also has a virtual local area network device including a first input/output port and a plurality of second input/output ports. Each of the second input/output ports is numbered from 1 through N, where N is an integer greater than 1. A plurality of modem devices are coupled to the virtual local area network device. The plurality of modem devices are numbered from 1 through N, where each of the plurality of modem devices being coupled respectively to one of the plurality of second input/output ports and where each of the plurality of modem devices also being coupled to one of a plurality of power lines numbered from 1 through N, each of the power lines being capable of communicating information to and from the second data source connection.

An AC power line is coupled to the housing member. In a specific embodiment, the AC powerline includes a male connector device, e.g., two prong, three prong. The apparatus has a surge protector coupled to the AC power line. The surge protector is within a first portion of the inner region of the housing member. The apparatus has one or more AC power outlets coupled to the surge protector. The one or more AC power outlets is spatially disposed on a first portion of the outer region of the housing member. An on/off switch is coupled between the one or more AC power outlets and the surge protector. A power line device is coupled to the AC powerline. The power line device is adapted to process a data signal from the AC powerline in a first format to a second format. A switching power supply is coupled to the AC powerline. The switching power supply is adapted to convert an AC power signal into a DC signal for use with the power line device. The apparatus also has a first output port coupled to an first input/output of the PLC device and may also have an Nth output port coupled to a second input/output of the PLC device; where N is an integer greater than 1.

The connector includes a single AC connector, which has at least a first prong and a second prong (which will be plugged into a conventional connector device). The connector also has at least a first pair of wires coupled to the single AC connector. The first pair of wires includes a first wire coupled to the first prong and a second wire coupled to the second prong. A hardware module is coupled to the first pair of wires, which are adapted to transmit a plurality of AC signals corresponding to AC power from the AC connector and a plurality data signals from the AC connector. A single DC connector is coupled to the hardware module. A single network connector is also coupled to the hardware module.
