Abstract:
A device for coating materials is provided. The device includes two opposing discs connected by a central hub. Each disc includes an inwardly extending flange about its perimeter. The central hub has an exterior surface defining a v-shaped surface. When assembled in a coating apparatus, a fluid material, such as batter, may be dispensed toward the exterior surface of the hub while the disc is spinning. The resulting spray of fluid may be used to coat material effectively, while minimizing waste.
Abstract:
A spreading apparatus for hitching to a helicopter includes a hopper suspended from a ring, three tubular legs with upper ends releasably attached to the ring, and a strut between each pair of legs. A plurality of tension cables are provided, each cable having a top end joined to the ring at a leg attachment point and a bottom end joined to a rubber roller inserted between adjacent struts where they attach to a leg with a coupling.
Abstract:
The preferred embodiment of the shielded counter-rotating spinner assembly for microparticalization of liquid consists of two opposed, coaxial, counter-rotating, conical, sharp-edged spinners whose edges are in close proximity and whose outer surfaces are in close proximity with non-rotating shields which extend to the edges of the spinners. The purpose of the shields is to greatly reduce the spinner induced air drafts so that, when liquids are applied to the inside surfaces of the spinners through the axes of the driving motors, the droplets produced on the edges of the spinners are injected into very low velocity air. The benefits of accomplishing this are the realization of very short droplet trajectories, the concomitant reduction in size of a plenum chamber which might encompass the device, the production of dense fogs of liquid droplets, and the ability to efficiently mix a liquid with a gas or to mix binary liquid chemicals together away from the device, but within a restricted volume where the atmosphere may be controlled and the production of solid droplets from the liquid phase through cooling in a finite volume and within a controlled atmosphere.
Abstract:
An applicator on a flexible support for herbicides and the like is formed with a rotating disk carrying a plurality of generally radially extending wicks. The wicks are fed by liquid from a central container and a rotatable cover is provided about the applicators.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an apparatus for distributing a stream of solidifiable, finely divided, vitreous coating material onto a heated internal surface of a concave article, such as a tank or a reaction vessel, to form a smooth, uniform, continuous, fused coating thereon. The apparatus consists of a horizontally mounted disc rotor which has a plurality of radially directed vanes mounted thereon. The vanes extend short of the rotor center defining a central chamber. The central chamber contains a cylindrical particle directing cage. The cage has a hollow central impeller, coaxially aligned, and spacedly positioned therein. The impeller is connected with the rotor by a common rotatable shaft. A supply of finely divided vitreous material is fed into the hollow of the impeller and directed through openings in the impeller into the cage member. The rotation of the impeller within the cage member extrudes a metered supply of the feed material through a discharge opening in the cage member into the vane area and rotation of the vanes centrifugally distributes the feed material in an outward direction toward the surface to be coated.
Abstract:
An improved apparatus for applying liquid state plasticizer to continuous filament tow comprising means for projecting a plurality of plasticizer droplets having a means diameter of 50 to 120 microns against the under side of a web of continuous filament tow at a velocity sufficient to penetrate the tow, thus producing uniform coating of plasticizer on both sides of the tow.
