Abstract:
This filler element is used in a flavor inhaler, and comprises: a folded part in which one sheet composed of a nonwoven fabric has been folded in the width direction Z intersecting the longitudinal direction X thereof, and the diameter thereof has been reduced to a size not greater than the diameter of the filler element; and wrapping paper that is wrapped on the folded part. A section of the folded part in the circumferential direction thereof has an opening that is open along the axial direction X of the folded part, and an additive is placed on the interior of the folded part via the opening.
Abstract:
A device for burning smoking material and inhaling the resulting smoke is disclosed. The device can include an truncated conical member formed from a material having an internal elongated cavity extending from an open end to a closed end. The elongated cavity can be configured to receive a smoking material. The smoking accessory can include a filter disposed within the truncated conical member and defining the closed end. The filter can have a recess formed in a surface of the body along a curved face extending from the first end to the second end, the recess extending radially into the body. The smoking accessory can include a capsule containing a flavoring agent disposed within the recess.
Abstract:
This invention pertains to the surface attachment of particles, such as metal oxides, to cellulose ester fibers. The particles are applied to the surface of the cellulose ester fibers using a protic liquid that is substantially free of plasticizer.
Abstract:
A filter manufacturing machine includes a feed path (7) configured to continuously feed a sheet material containing filter fibers and provided with a first plasticizer addition unit (9); a forming device (3) connected to a terminating end of the feed path (7) and configured to form the sheet material (6) into a hollow rod-shaped continuous filter body (11), the forming device including a tubular forming path for forming the sheet material (6) into the continuous filter body (11), a heat treating section for heating the sheet material, and a second plasticizer addition unit (14) arranged near the inlet of the tubular forming path; and a wrapping device (4) configured to receive the continuous filter body (11) delivered from the forming device (3) and wrap the continuous filter body in a wrapper to form a filter rod (19).
Abstract:
Apparatus for applying an additive to cigarette filter tow material which is in, or exiting, a filter tow funnel, the apparatus comprising a flavor inlet, a valve, and a hollow needle positioned downstream of at least a portion of said filter tow funnel, the needle being in fluid communication controlled by said valve with said flavor inlet, whereby, in use, a flavoring is delivered by said needle into the path of said filter tow material.
Abstract:
A filter making apparatus includes a positioning device having a passageway therethrough, with the passageway guiding a continuous flavor element such as a continuous strand of textile material from an inlet of the passageway to an outlet of the passageway. A liquid flavorant is introduced into the passageway at a desired flow rate and the strand of material carries the supplied liquid flavorant out of the positioning device at a rate substantially equal to the desired flow rate. A portion of the passageway can form a bath of the liquid flavorant supplied to the passageway through a separate inlet at approximately atmospheric pressure. A portion of the positioning device guides the continuous strand of material through the bath, or guides the strand to pass along the bottom of the passageway, and the saturated or partially saturated strand of material then exits from an outlet of the passageway to a point in the path of filter tow material that is being converged to form a filter rod.
Abstract:
Apparatus and method for applying a fluid to a moving continuous web whereby fluid is collected and stored in a multichamber cylinder when application of fluid to the web is ceased, and substantially all of the fluid collected and stored is promptly and directly retrieved from the multichamber cylinder after application of fluid to the moving continuous web has recommenced. A storage chamber of the multichamber is sized to receive an amount of fluid such that the fluid level is below the bristles of an applicator brush.
Abstract:
Air is blown into filter tow during or immediately after the application of plasticizer; this foams and distributes the plasticizer in the tow. Air may be delivered from a porous plate closely adjacent to the path of the tow or from nozzles in an air injecting unit. Alternatively air may be used to foam plasticizer at a location remote from the tow and foamed plasticizer subsequently conveyed to and into the tow by a roller.
Abstract:
A method for applying additives to a cigarette filter rod during its formation is disclosed. The additives are applied in the form of a liquid foam, allowing low application rates with uniform distribution. According to the method, it is not necessary to use large amounts of solvents to apply the additives, thereby avoiding overwetting of the filter material.
Abstract:
Apparatus and method are described for manufacturing a filter rod from a continuous multifilament filter tow which is treated with a smoke-modifying agent during the filter rod manufacturing process.
