Abstract:
A corrugated box machine having improved delivery means is disclosed. A conveyor belt assembly works in combination with tensioning apparatus, a support bracket assembly and an idler guide assembly.
Abstract:
An adhesive coating machine in which a gear pump for pressure-feeding an adhesive is mechanically driven upon passage of an object matter to be coated with adhesive and ejects the adhesive on the object, and in which after the passage of the object the gear pump is reversely rotate so that the adhesive is prevented from flowing out. A drive wheel is positioned inside the passage of the object and rotated by the object matter to be coated during the passage thereof, thereby driving the gear pump.
Abstract:
The glue pot is attached to a glue applicator to supply a continuous flow of hot liquid glue to the applicator rolls of the glue applicator. The glue pot comprises an upright cylindrical glue container with an opening formed in the central portion of its bottom wall, and a water stack extending from said bottom wall opening upwardly through the glue container to form an annular glue reservoir. A water tank is positioned below the bottom wall of the glue container in open communication with the water stack, and water is supplied to the water tank and water stack. Heating means heats the water in the water tank and in the water stack, so that the glue in the glue reservoir is heated from inside out and from bottom up. A pump has its inlet in communication with the lower portion of the glue reservoir and it delivers liquid glue to the glue applicator rolls of the glue applicator, and directs a continuous flow of glue into the upper portion of the annular glue reservoir to continuously stir the glue in the reservoir. A water supply conduit extends through the heated water tank so as to supply hot water for cleaning the pump and glue conduits and for cleaning the glue applicator.
Abstract:
A box forming machine wherein box blanks move along a slideway while glue wheels rotating below the slideway apply spots of glue to each carton blank before it reaches the folding station. A carriage, which is slidable over the slideway, has pusher fingers to push the blank and also carries a rack which engages a gear on the glue wheel shaft. The pitch diameter of the gear is equal to the outer diameter of the glue wheel so that the box blank, and the glue applying surfaces of the glue wheels move at precisely the same speeds at any given instant whereby the glue is applied in precise areas determined by the shape of the glue applying surfaces.
Abstract:
Hot melt adhesive is applied to a moving substrate in a pattern including at least two lines which extend transversely to one another, by conveying the substrate past a nozzle orifice through which a first line of molten adhesive is applied, as by extrusion, to the substrate parallel to the direction of substrate movement and, while continuing to move the substrate in the same direction, projecting another portion of the molten hot melt adhesive onto the substrate as a burst in the form of a flat sheet issuing from a fan spray orifice, this orifice being oriented so that the sheet is projected transversely to the direction of substrate movement, and terminating the burst so rapidly that the adhesive so projected is deposited on the moving substrate in the form of a line having a length in the crosswise direction that is several times its width.
Abstract:
A long seam gluer for folding a carton blank into cylindrical form and forming a glued seam between the outer surface of a glue flap and a glued area on an overlying side panel includes a magazine for holding a stack of carton blanks, feed mechanism for feeding carton blanks one at a time from the magazine in a predetermined direction with a longitudinal extent of the glue flap in the side panel normal to the predetermined direction, first folding mechanism for folding a first portion of the carton blank including the glue flap into a position overlying a remainder of the carton blank to leave exposed the outer surface of the glue flap, glue applying mechanism for applying a longitudinal body of glue to the glue flap as the glue flap is fed in the predetermined direction with the longitudinal extent of the glue flap normal to the predetermined direction, second folding mechanism for folding a second portion of the carton blank including the side panel into a position overlying a remainder of the carton blank to place the inner surface of the side panel over the body of glue on the glue flap, pressing mechanism to press and hold the side panel against the body of glue on the glue flap until the body of glue has set firmly to secure the glue flap to the side panel to form a flattened cylindrical carton, and a carton opening mechanism adjacent to the pressing mechanism for opening the flattened carton to receive an article therein.
Abstract:
Wiper blades are mounted on the end bearing blocks and are located at each end of a rotatable cylindrical glue applicator roll and are arranged to wipe the glue from the flat ends of the applicator roll and from the end portions of the annular surface of the applicator roll. The wiper blades include a horizontal leg having a concave roll contact surface normally in engagement with the end curved portion of the cylindrical roll and a flat surface in contact with the flat end of the roll. A portion of the wiper blade adjacent the flat end of the roll is angled between a tangent and a radius from the axis of rotation of the roll on the downward moving side of the roll and includes a groove for deflecting and guiding the glue in a downward direction off the flat end of the roll. A pick finger support bar extends above and parallel to the cylindrical roll, a plurality of pick fingers are mounted on the pick bar, and the pick bar is adjustably supported at its ends substantially without any bending forces being applied to the pick bar so as to permit the pick bar to remain rectilinear and to properly position the pick fingers against the cylindrical glue applicator roll.
Abstract:
An envelope machine having a roller assembly with a groove in the roller and a ring assembly removably mounted in the groove. The ring assembly has a pair of half-rings segments removably mounted in the groove, each of which are adapted to mesh and interfit with each other to form the ring assembly. The ring assembly lies below the surface of the roller and each ring segment has a holding notch at one end and a key assembly at the other end, with the holding notch of one ring segment adapted to interfit and mesh with the key assembly of another ring segment.
Abstract:
A glue gun type gluing apparatus has glue guns 8a and 8b for applying glue to a gluing area in a joint flap 2 of a corrugated board sheet 1 for manufacturing a box, which runs on a box manufacturing line, a sheet end detection sensor 3 for detecting the front and rear ends of the corrugated board sheet 1, an encoder 7 for measuring the travel distance of the corrugated board sheet 1, and a control unit 9 for controlling the operation of the glue guns 8a and 8b. The control unit 9 learns and stores the position of gluing area on the basis of the information from the sheet end detection sensor 3 and the encoder 7 while the corrugated board sheet 1 is run at a low speed, and restricts the acquisition of detection signals by the sensor 3 during the time from the passing of the end point of the joint flap 2 to the arrival of the start point of the next joint flap 2.
Abstract:
A vastly improved folder/gluer is disclosed. This folder/gluer: is much more reliable, produces better folds, runs faster, and can be modified much easier, than prior art folder/gluers. These features are achieved by using a vacuum conveyor with overhead folding elements. Furthermore, the top of the article to be folded is never touched by another conveyor.
