Abstract:
A compound comprising a blend of polypropylene with the reaction of a functionalized polypropylene and polyether amine in which the polyether amine is grafted into the functionalized polypropylene in a customary mixing apparatus is disclosed. The blend may include an elastomer such as EP rubber and/or a filler such as glass. A process for producing the reaction product of the functionalized polypropylene and the polyether amine by melting with polypropylene in a customary mixing apparatus is also disclosed. Blends of the present invention are advantageously useful to prepare paintable automotive body parts. A polyether monoamine that contains from about 36 to about 44 ethylene units and from about 1 to about 6 propylene units, and processes and blends using same.

Abstract:
This invention discloses the composition and preparation of imidazolidone modified polyetheramines. The alkyl polyetheramine is derived from 2-isopropylaminoethylamine and urea. N-isopropyl-2-imidazolidone is the intermediate product, which is alkoxylated and aminated to prepare the N-isopropyl imidazolidone polyetheramine. This invention also discloses the composition and preparation of oxazolidinone modified polyetheramines by reductive amination of polyols derived from 4-ethyl-4-hydroxymethyl-2-oxazolidone. The products of this invention have been tested in epoxy resin applications and improved properties have been demonstrated. These products may also be useful in polyurea applications.
Abstract:
Amines endowed with chain extension activity for formulations such as polyureas and polyurethanes are disclosed, which have the general formula: ##STR1## wherein n is 1-1000 and m is 1-100; R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are from the group --C.sub.2 H.sub.4 -- and C.sub.3 H.sub.6 --; and R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are each independently selected from the group consisting of H, --CH.sub.3, --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.3, --CH.sub.2 OH, and --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --OH; and the diasteromeric salts thereof.

Abstract:
A process in which a dialdehyde is reacted with a polyoxyalkylene glycol to form a dialdehyde glycol condensate which is alkoxylated with propylene oxide, butylene oxide or mixtures thereof and the resulting product is then catalytically aminated to provide, for example, a tetramine is disclosed. These compounds are useful as curing agents for epoxy resins and for reaction with isocyanates to prepare polyurea elastomers and to manufacture articles, such as automotive body panels by reaction injection molding.
Abstract:
An amine is produced by reacting in the presence of hydrogen at elevated temperature a first reactant which is a compound substantially involatile at the elevated temperature employed and having either one, two or more hydroxyl functions, each of which is independently either a primary or secondary hydroxyl function, with a second reactant which is either ammonia or a primary or a secondary amine in the presence of a reductive amination catalyst wherein the reaction is effected in either a continuously or periodically open system.
Abstract:
A process in which a di-trimethylol alkane initiator is oxyalkylated to form an alkylene oxide adduct which is then catalytically aminated to provide, for example, a tetramine. These compounds are useful for preparing polyurethane products and as curing agents for epoxy resins.
