    摘要: The apparatus for joining and sealing conduits, includes edge trim, a sleeve, and a retaining element. The edge trim is shaped to mount upon and engage an end of a conduit. The sleeve extends between the conduits and at least partially surrounds the edge trim. The sleeve may be made of compressible material, such that when the retaining element surrounds a portion of the sleeve and the edge trim, the retaining element generally compresses the portion of the sleeve portion underlying the retaining element and displaces the sleeve material to expand on either side of the retaining element and limit movement of the retaining element. The method of joining and sealing conduits includes mounting the edge trim and a retaining element upon an end of a conduit, extending a sleeve between the conduits, and sliding the retaining element over the sleeve toward the end of the conduit.

The band clamp has a band extending from a first end to a second end and includes a pair of spaced ribs extending at least part way between the first and second ends. A tightening mechanism is connected to the band and includes two clamp members movable toward and away from each other for tightening and loosening of the band. The band clamp further includes a gasket located on an inner surface of the band between the ribs and extending between the first and second ends. The use of the ribs with the interposed gasket provides a mechanical interlock of the band clamp with the tubular bodies while providing a hermetic seal at the junction between the two bodies.

    摘要: A sleeve for coupling together two fluid-handling conduits includes a compressible and resilient tubular core and a protective fabric cover which covers at least portions of the outer surface of the core and is substantially inexpansible in the radial and circumferential directions so as to resist radial and circumferential expansion of the core. The core is preferably a cellular elastomeric foam and the fabric cover advantageously is integrally molded into the core. The core is sized slightly smaller in diameter than the conduits to be joined so that it is expanded radially when installed onto a conduit. Expansion of the core is resisted by the fabric cover, and thus the core is radially compressed and provides a continuous restoring force urging the sleeve against the conduit. The sleeve preferably includes strike-through regions in which the foam material of the core penetrates through to the outer surface of the sleeve so as to form slip-resistant surfaces for engagement by plastic tie-wraps or other clamping devices. The inner surface of the core at both ends preferably includes a fabric layer which provides a slip-enhancing surface facilitating sliding the sleeve over the ends of the conduits or hoses to be joined. In a further preferred embodiment, a pressure-activated or thermally activated adhesive band covers the inner surface of the sleeve for sealing the sleeve to a conduit.

    摘要: A mechanical coupling device for connecting together two aligned fiberglass reinforced plastic duct sections, each having a terminal end portion of equal diameter, so as to form a leak proof joint that is resistant to fire and also chemical corrosion from gases and/or condensate within the duct sections is disclosed. The device comprises elements that cover and seal the terminal end portion of each said duct section; a central gasket member that covers the end elements and extends around the terminal end portions of the duct sections; a flexible metal sleeve member that surrounds the central gasket member; and tightening devices on the sleeve which compress the central gasket member and hold the aligned adjoining duct sections together to provide a leak-proof joint. The tightening devices are spring driven so that if the bulk of the gasket member is reduced due to fire, the sleeve will maintain a firm non-slip hold on the duct joint. Different embodiments of the coupling device are disclosed using various configurations of the central gasket member and end elements as well as the use of intumescent materials in the gasket member or in a separate bag. The intumescent materials react to fire which may occur in the duct by swelling to further help the coupling device in maintaining a firm non-slip position on the duct joint during such fire conditions.
