摘要： A unit for sampling and quality controlling tobacco items, in particular cigarettes, wherein a sample item, fed by a first conveyor along a first given path, is transferred automatically by a selectively operated spoon-shaped diverter along a second path to a second conveyor tangent to the first path. The sample item is fed to a support in which it is supported in facing relation to an optical control device. The sample item is inspected in the support and the optical control device emits signals as a function of the surface characteristics of the sample item.

摘要： A plurality of bottle release stations are arranged proximate to the path of movement of a plurality of bottle gripper heads. The gripper heads have grippers which can be switched from a gripping mode to a release mode. Containers of unsorted bottles are conveyed to a pick up station on an infeed conveyor where one of the gripper heads is guided to direct its grippers to the mouths of bottles at which time the grippers are switched to the gripping mode. All of the unsorted bottles in the container are carried to a first release station on an infeed conveyor where bottles having a certain characteristic such as the same color are released by switching the grippers to the release mode. The gripper head, in a continuous motion, then moves to another release station where, by means of a control system, bottles having another characteristic, such as a different color are released. The same procedure occurs at any one or more release stations until all bottles have been deposited at release stations in accordance with their different characteristics. Bottles deposited at the various release stations are conveyed away to various destinations which may include bottle washing machines, bottle filling lines and so forth.

摘要： The apparatus for recycling glass containers comprises an enclosure having at least one customer access opening and a rotatable carousel mounted in the enclosure. The rotatable carousel defines a plurality of glass container receiving recesses for subsequently receiving glass containers through the customer access opening. A fixed platform defining at least two openings underlies the carousel and a scanner, mounted in the enclosure, is positioned adjacent the carousel for scanning the code markings on the glass container. At least one trap door is provided, the trap door being operatively associated with a first opening in the fixed platform. The scanner electrically controls the movement of the trap doors so that glass containers, upon rotation of the carousel, will selectively fall through one of the openings in the fixed platform. The apparatus further comprises a glass container engaging device mounted in the enclosure having at least two engaging jaws for independently engaging glass containers passing through the openings. Separate storage bins are provided which underlie each of the engaging jaws for receiving the engaged glass containers therefrom. Two embodiments of a glass container engaging device are also disclosed.

According to their difference in material, the items rebound with different trajectories so that they land on separate receiving surfaces lying at different radii from the axis. The receiving surfaces may be stationary or maybe vibratable, so that items received by them are conveyed along them by vibration to collection points.

摘要： In making electronic components, it is usually necessary to test and sort the components in accordance with their characteristics. In carrying out such operations, the components are guided along a first portion of a path tangential to a rotatable member having notches spaced in the periphery thereof. The rotatable member is moved to engage one notch with each component to support such component and to space it from the other components in accordance with the spacing of the notches. The rotatable member controllably moves the articles along a second portion of a path adjacent the first portion. The rotatable member is then stopped and the leads of each supported component are straightened. The components are then fed to another rotatable member and controllably moved to a testing facility. While the other rotatable member is stopped, the leads of each component are engaged by contacts of the testing facility to determine certain characteristics of each component. Finally, each component is sorted in accordance with its characteristics.

摘要： A feed wheel for use in sorting apparatus for feeding beans or other similar articles to be sorted in single file into a viewing head in which the objects are optically examined to detect those of undesirable quality or characteristics. This feed wheel is provided with two disc members that are supported in spaced relation by a hub that may be readily disassembled. Peripheral portions of the disc members are provided with inwardly projecting flanges for gripping and supporting a plurality of small scoops extending around the circumference of the disc members. A plurality of locking devices are provided to the disc members for holding the disc members clamped against the scoops so that said scoops can be removed and replaced only when the locking members are disengaged. Several of the feed wheels may be mounted on a rotatable shaft and rotated at a selected speed through a supply of beans or other articles to be sorted so that the scoops each pick up one of such articles which are then projected in single file through the sorting apparatus viewing head.

A guide member having a slot therein is pivotally mounted in the machine and is used in cooperation with generally opposing pairs of drive rollers to bow or bend the card slightly as it is fed to the card reader. When a card is to be captured, the guide member is rotated to a position which prevents the card from passing through the slot in the guide member and out of the machine, and causes the card to deflect over the guide member and thereafter drop into a collection box within the machine.
