    摘要: Hydraulic engine valve lifter includes a pair of pistons defining a pressure chamber therebetween and a separate lash adjusting piston which defines a lash adjustment chamber with one of the pistons in the pair. One-way valve structures permit fluid to flow from the pressure chamber into the lash adjustment chamber thereby displacing the lash adjusting piston to, in turn, adjust valve lash. Motion damping functions during a downstroke of the lifter pistons are also provided by a valve damper chamber and fluid passageways between the pressure and damper chambers. Structure is provided which opens communication between the pressure and damper chambers during upstroke of the lifter pistons (thereby precluding motion damping) and then closes communication at a predetermined location during downstroke (thereby providing motion damping).

The pivotal structure comprises a ball-like portion, a spherical concave portion shaped in a form substantially correspondent to the ball-like portion and engaged with the ball-like portion, and an elastic member disposed at an aperture end of the spherical concave portion and adapted to hold the ball-like portion in the spherical concave portion.

    摘要: The invention provides an inexpensive and simple mechanical spring system which automatically compensates for variations in the clearance gap in the valve-actuating mechanism of internal combustion engines, whereby considerably to lengthen the time an engine can be in operation before manual adjustment of the clearance gap becomes necessary. The system comprises at least one thin metal disc located between a convex surface in contact with the center of one face of the disc and an annular surface in contact with the periphery of the other face of the disc, movement of the surfaces together deforming the disc around the convex surface to produce a spring force which increases at a variable rate until it exceeds the valve spring loading and the valve opens. The mechanism is initially adjusted so that the spring deflection is approximately one half the deflection required to overcome the valve spring loading.

    摘要: A reciprocating piston internal combustion engine is provided and includes poppet-type intake and exhaust valves. The valves are spring-biased under light spring pressure toward their closed positions and opposed electromagnets are operatively associated with each valve for shifting the latter between the open and closed limit positions thereof. Further, hydraulic dampening structure is provided for rapidly retarding the speed of movement of the valves as they approach their limit positions of movement. In this manner, there is a cushioning action on the valves and their seats as well as a substantial reduction in the tendency of the valves to operate in an erratic manner when the engine is operating under high speed conditions.
