摘要: A reflective element assembly for a variable reflectance vehicular mirror includes a front substrate having a transparent conductive coating disposed on a second surface thereof, and a rear substrate having an electrically conductive metallic reflective coating disposed on a third surface thereof. An opacifying layer may be disposed around a perimeter border region of the second surface. The electrically conductive metallic reflective coating includes a principal reflecting region and a tab-out portion continuing from the principal reflecting region at least out to generally proximate a perimeter edge of the rear substrate. An electrically non-conductive perimeter border region of the third surface is substantially devoid of the electrically conductive metallic reflective coating. An electrically conductive element may at least partially establish electrical continuity to the tab-out portion and may provide a site at the fourth surface of the rear substrate for electrical connection.

摘要: An electrically controlled light modulator device comprises at least one cell, where two deformable dielectric layers meet at an interface, at least one of said layers consisting of viscoelastic relief forming gel. A first support electrode structure and a second signal electrode structures are arranged on separate sides of the dielectric layers in order to create an electric field passing through said layers and in order to create surface reliefs on the viscoelastic gel layer. According to the invention, a third enhancement electrode structure is arranged in the proximity of the first signal electrode structure. Applying enhancement signal voltage between the enhancement electrode structure and the signal electrode structure concentrates locally the electric field passing through the two deformable dielectric layers and therefore enhances the amplitude of the deformation of the viscoelastic gel layer.

摘要: An optical device is provided with first and second inputs. A first coupler coupled is coupled to the first input and produces at least a first and second output. A second coupler is coupled to the second input and produces at least a first and second output. A third coupler is coupled to the first output of the first coupler and to the first output of the second coupler. A fourth coupler is coupled to the second output of the first coupler and to the second output of the second coupler. First and second crossing waveguides are provided with an angle selected to minimize crosstalk and losses between the first and second cross waveguides. The first crossing waveguide connects one of the first or second outputs from the first coupler with an input of the fourth coupler. The second crossing waveguide connects one of the first or second outputs from the second coupler with an input of the third coupler. A first phase shifter is coupled to the first and second waveguides. The first and second waveguides connect one of the outputs of the first or second coupler and one of the inputs of the third or fourth couplers. The first, second, third and fourth couplers, the two crossing waveguides and the phase shifter are each formed as part of a single planar chip made of an electro-optical material.

摘要: A system and method for reducing or eliminating speckle when using a coherent light source is provided. A refracting device is positioned such that a major surface of the refracting device is oblique to the axis of the coherent light and such that the coherent light passes through the refracting device. Because the refracting device is oblique to the incoming coherent light, the outgoing coherent light is offset from the axis of the incoming light. The refracting device may be rotated about an axis parallel to the incoming coherent light, thereby causing the outgoing coherent light to be rotated in an approximately circular orbit centered about the axis of the incoming coherent light.
