The sliding ring (2) can contact a contact edge (10) of the tube (6) to compress it asymmetrically.

摘要： A shield for a universal joint having two yokes is disclosed. Each one of a pair of opposed bell elements is journaled upon the yokes and has a hemispherically shaped outer surface. Each one of a pair of frusto-spherically shaped shoes slidably overlaps one of the bell elements so that the shoes are restrained against axial movement but can rotate relative to the bell elements. A boot spans the shoes with each shoe rotatably disposed between its associated bell element and the boot. The shoes float upon the bell elements within the boot to fully enclose the universal joint as the joint is articulated. The small range of motion of the shield makes it especially suited to operate at wide angles in compact spaces.

摘要： A double Cardan universal joint is provided with improved centering members. One end yoke of the joint has circular ridges or teeth and a central tooth facing the other end yoke with the center line of the teeth being coaxial with the axis of rotation of the one yoke. The other end yoke has circular ridges or teeth and a central recess facing the one end yoke with the center line of those teeth and recess being coaxial with the axis of rotation of that yoke. The teeth are positioned so that one tooth extends between two teeth of the other yoke for any position of the end yokes and the drive and driven members or shafts to which they are attached. The sets of teeth are in patterns of spherical segments so that any longitudinal cross section taken centrally through the teeth has the same general appearance as a section gear through a segment. In a preferred form, the tooth profile or shape in transverse section is such that intermediate portions are thicker than both inner and outer end portions. The center tooth is also thicker in transverse cross section than the other teeth and the central recess is wider in transverse cross section than grooves between the teeth.

The sealing member may be a movable piston arranged in the output opening of the trunnion cross.
