    Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus for providing a balancing weight in a groove on a rotor disk in a gas turbine engine. The apparatus comprises an elongate reservoir for housing a hardenable material and an inflatable balloon in fluid communication with the distal end of the elongate reservoir. An actuator is provided for forcing the hardenable material from the elongate reservoir to inflate the inflatable balloon with hardenable material within the groove on the rotor disk. A sealing device for sealing the inflated inflatable element to form the balancing weight is also provided.

    Abstract: This application describes a manufactured component and method for forming the component. The component comprises: a plurality of parts (212, 214) joined together by a straight line joint (216) and a multi-faceted joint (218). The plurality of parts define a cavity (236) having an internal surface (226) and an external (222) surface. The straight line joint extends through a wall of the component along a straight line between the external surface the internal surface; and, the multi-faceted joint includes an external joint line extending from an external surface to meet an internal joint line which extends from an internal surface, the external and internal joint lines being at an angle to one another. The internal joint line and the straight line joint are aligned with one another such that a straight line extending from the straight line joint will coincide with the internal joint.

    Abstract: A fan outlet assembly comprises a fan discharge nozzle having a radially inner platform, a radially outer platform arranged coaxially and in radial alignment with the radially inner platform and a circumferential array of outlet guide vanes (110) spanning an annulus defined by the radially inner platform and radially outer platform. An annular duct extends downstream from the circumferential array, the duct having a radially outer wall (112) contiguous with the radially outer platform and a radially inner wall (111) contiguous with the radially inner platform. In a region extending downstream from the circumferential array, the radially inner and outer platforms and/or the radially inner and outer walls having a non-axisymmetric surface bounding the duct. A non-axisymmetric surface may be applied to either or both of the radially outer and radially inner contiguous surfaces and may extend upstream as well as downstream of the circumferential array of outlet guide vanes.

    Abstract: A device for chocking and retaining a dovetail root of a blade of a gas turbine engine in a corresponding axially-extending slot in the rim of a disc, the root being mounted in the slot by insertion of a leading end of the root into a proximal end of the slot and then sliding the root towards a distal end of the slot. The device includes a first wedging body having a key portion receivable in a keyway formed at the distal end of the slot. The keyway restrains the first wedging body against movement in the axial direction. The first wedging body further has a first angled surface over which a correspondingly angled leading end surface of the root slides when the root is inserted in the slot to urge the leading end of the root radially outwardly.
