    摘要: A carburetor for an internal combustion engine. A carburetor body has an induction passage for air to be drawn into the engine. A throttle valve is positioned in the induction passage and is movable between an open and a closed position to control the quantity of air drawn into the engine. A staging valve is positioned in the induction passage and is movable between an open and a closed position. The staging valve is closed during engine cranking and is moved to a first open position when the engine starts and toward its fully open position as the engine warms up. The opening movement of the staging valve is limited to a second open position which is less than its fully open position. The limiting of staging valve movement to this second and less than fully open position limits the usable air capacity of the carburetor to less than its maximum capacity. Staging of the carburetor occurs in response to movement of the throttle valve past a predetermined open position and the staging valve is allowed to move freely between its second open position and a more fully open position solely in response to the demand for air by the engine. The free movement of the staging valve to its fully open position increases the usable air capacity of the carburetor to its maximum capacity.

Each carrier (72, 74) has an annular base (76) adjacent one of the flow passages and a pair of spacers or guides (78, 80) secured to the base and extending from the base (76) in a direction axially of the flow passage. The spacers (78, 80) on opposed carriers are in abutting relation to each other and form a smooth continuation. An expanding gate assembly (28) fits between the spacers and moves between open and closed positions relative to the flow passages.

    摘要: A forced air control valve for an air injection system in an internal combustion engine is shifted during cold engine operation to divert air flow to the exhaust manifold upstream of a catalytic converter bed to supply air to the exhaust gases for further combustion prior to entry in the catalytic converter. A diaphragm operated main valve is responsive to a vacuum from the intake manifold for diverting air to the exhaust manifold and a temperature activated vacuum switch shuts off the vacuum when the engine warms up. Upon deceleration during cold engine operation the control valve is shifted to divert air away from the exhaust manifold.

    摘要: A forced air control valve for an air injection system in an internal combustion engine has a diaphragm operated main valve member responsive to the vacuum from intake manifold to divert air from the exhaust system to atmosphere. A separate shifting or diverter valve for the exhaust system is temperature responsive and when the main valve member is open permits the supply of air to the exhaust manifold upstream of a catalytic converter only during cold engine operation. During warm engine operation when the main valve member is open, the separate shifting valve diverts the air to the catalytic converter. Upon deceleration during cold engine operation the separate diverter valve is shifted to divert air from the exhaust manifold to the catalytic converter. A temperature sensitive overheat switch is operable upon overheating of the catalyst to vent the forced air to atmosphere.

    摘要: In accordance with the present invention an open top railway car is provided in which the car body is divided longitudinally into at least two body sections having opposite ends which are pivotally mounted on vertically extending supports attached to a car underframe. The body sections include respective transversely spaced side walls, at least one end wall, and bottom walls having inner edges which abut and/or overlap in closed position to define the bottom of the car. Each of the body sections is pivotable from the closed position to an open position in which the inner edges of the bottom walls are spaced apart to allow discharge of lading between the rails. An energy saving unloading system is also disclosed for unloading the cars.

    摘要: A pneumatic hopper outlet, where the discharge conduit end cap is held in place with at least one large headed bolt which is pivotably mounted on the discharge conduit and which engages at least a portion of the end cap. The large headed bolt is attached to a vertically extending locking member of generally inverted J shape which is rotatably mounted on a side of the discharge conduit. When an operating handle attached to an operating shaft of an outlet valve element is in the position which corresponds to the fully closed position of the valve element, the lower surface of the locking member prevents movement of the operating handle and the valve element from moving from the closed position. If the valve element and its operating shaft are not in the fully closed position, the operating handle obstructs the path of the pivoting locking member and the large headed bolt cannot be pivoted into position to hold the end cap in closed position. Preferably a pair of locking members are provided on each end of the outlet, each attached to a large headed bolt which engages a portion of the end cap.

    摘要: Apparatus for venting fuel vapors present in the fuel bowl of a carburetor for an internal combustion engine comprises a bowl vent through which fuel vapors discharge when the vent is open. A valve opens and closes the vent. A biasing force is exerted on the valve to close the vent. In response to starting of the engine first and second opening forces are exerted on the valve; these forces being sufficient to overcome the biasing force exerted thereon and open the vent. Each vent opening force is independently sufficient to open the vent and the vent is open when the engine is running even if one of the first and second forces is not exerted on the valve or is insufficient to open the valve.

    摘要: A pair of longitudinally spaced valve elements are provided in a pneumatic outlet. Each valve element includes a body portion, preferably a segment of a circle, including a body portion edge which seats on a body portion valve seat located adjacent the body portion edge, and a moment portion extending eccentrically away from the body portion, which seats on a moment portion valve seat. Each valve element is movable to a sampling position in which the body portion is spaced from the body portion valve seat and the moment portion is spaced from the moment portion valve seat to allow lading for sampling to flow into the discharge conduit. Each valve element includes a pair of operating shafts extending in opposite directions from the valve element, parallel to the discharge conduit, through opposite end walls of the outlet. Operating handles are attached to the operating shafts outside the end walls of the outlet. The discharge conduit end caps are held in place with a pair of large headed bolts which are pivotably mounted on the discharge conduit and which engage at least a portion of the adjacent end cap. The large headed bolts are attached to vertically extending locking members of generally inverted J shape which are rotatably mounted on a side of the discharge conduit. In accordance with the present invention, the lower locking surface on a pair of diagonally spaced inverted J bolts is spaced from its respective operating handle a distance sufficient that if the end cap on the near or sampling end of the outlet is removed, the operating handle on the sampling end may be rotated sufficiently to move the valve member away from its valve seat a distance sufficient to take a sample of lading, without removing the end cap on the opposite end of the discharge conduit.

    摘要: A metallic seat assembly for a gate valve includes an annular seat pocket around the flow passageways to the valve chamber with a metallic annular seat support member rigidly mounted in the seat pocket and a metallic annular seat member movably mounted inside the seat support member and connected thereto by a resilient and flexible annular metallic member. The resilient annular member is secured continuously around its inner and outer perimeters to the seat support member and the seat member respectively and it functions as a spring to bias the seat member toward the gate and as a seal between the seat member and the supporting member. The resilient and flexible member permits axial movement of the seat member relative to the seat support member and also compensates for thermal expansion and contraction of the seat member and the seat support member relative to each other. The metallic seat member has an integral metallic sealing lip extending from an annular groove around the sealing face of the seat member. The metallic lip has its free end extending beyond the planar sealing face when in the free position and can be deflected completely into the groove upon contact with a movable valve member.
