    摘要: Connectors are formed from insulative, terminal-carrying frames that are open on at least one major surface. The open major surfaces allows rapid insertion of contact terminals and attachment of wires to contact surfaces within the frame. The frame includes wire receiving openings and cavities for positioning wires within the frame. Electrical continuity between the wires and the terminals may be achieved directly or by a circuit substrate that has circuit traces for electrically connecting an attached wire to a connector terminal. High speed cable connectors can be made in an industrially effective manner by such structures.

    摘要: Electrical connectors capable of being mounted on circuit substrates by BGA techniques are disclosed. Also disclosed is a method for manufacturing such connectors. There is at least one recess on the exterior side of the connector elements. A conductive contact extends from adjacent the interior side of the into the recess on the exterior side of the housing. A controlled volume of solder paste is introduced into the recess. A fusible conductive element, in the form of solder balls is positioned in the recess. The connector is subjected to a reflow process to fuse the solder ball to the portion of the contact extending into said recess. Contacts are secured in the insulative housing of the connector by deformable sections that minimize stress imposed on the housing, thereby reducing warpage. Solder resist areas are formed on central portions of the contacts to promote uniformity of solder volume. As a result of these features, substantial coplanarity of the BGA array along the mounting interface of the connector is achieved.

    摘要: Electrical connectors having latches for holding the connectors in mated condition employ relatively long latch arms with a point of flexure near a rear end of the connector. The latches extend into locating posts positioned forwardly of the mating face of the connector. If multiple latch arms are used, they are interconnected by a commonly actuated cross bar. Latch arms may be formed by integrally molding the arms with covers of the connectors. Effective latching properties and a long life are achieved with such latch structures. Manufacturing costs may be reduced by integrally molding latches with covers of the connector.

    摘要: A connector apparatus for a card-like data processing medium has an ejection mechanism for discharging the card-like data processing medium from the connector apparatus. The ejection mechanism comprises a slidable plate that is movably mounted on a frame of the connector apparatus and has a pawl that engages with a forward end face of the card-like data processing medium. The slidable plate slides back and forth in a plane that is substantially parallel to a plane defined by the frame in order to eject the card-like data processing medium. A pivotal lever for transmitting movement of a push rod into movement of the slidable plate is rotatably mounted on the frame in the same plane as the slidable plate, thereby reducing the profile of the connector apparatus. In an alternate embodiment, the pivotal lever is replaced by a plurality of gears that transmit movement of the push rod into movement of the slidable plate.

An optical fiber ribbon cable has its insulation removed and the fibers are inserted through every other bore in the block. A second optical fiber ribbon cable similarly has its insulation removed at one end and is superimposed over the first ribbon cable with its fibers being inserted through the remaining bore. Because of this construction substantial numbers of fibers may be received in this connector.

    摘要: An electrical connector includes a number of contact elements that, in the preferred embodiment, are pins. Each pin includes an electrically conductive contact surface that is configured to engage an electrically conductive surface within a mating connector to achieve an electrical connection. Each pin also includes a leading surface that is integral with the contact surface and is configured to contact the conductive surface of the mating connector during connection and disconnection with the mating connector. One advantageous feature of the invention is the provision of a detent between the leading surface and the contact surface. The detent collects surface debris from the leading surface before the debris can be swept onto said contact surface during connection. As a result, any debris that is collected in the detent will not interfere with the electrical connection between the pin and the conductive surface in the mating connector.
