Abstract:
This invention relates to an air conditioning system which includes an enclosed room having vertical wall means with an air inlet opening therein. Cooled air passing through the opening has one or two variable parameters which are its velocity and its temperature. Movable vanes are set in the inlet opening and the angle of inclination of the vanes is varied in a manner to avoid discomfort to occupants of the room by being subjected to cold drafts of air. Air temperature or air velocity sensing means are provided. Control means responsive to said sensing means are provided which varies the inclination of the vanes inversely relative to the sensed air temperature or sensed air velocity and (2) simultaneously varies the temperature of the air admitted to the room.
Abstract:
A blocking oscillator including a transistor amplifier with a feedback transformer having a main winding in the collector circuit and a feedback winding in the base circuit. The feedback winding also serves as an energy-recovery winding by having a diode connected in series with it. The diode is poled such that, when the amplifier is not conducting, the magnetic energy stored in the transformer is fed back to the power supply.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for producing an oxygen containing silicon compound free of silicon dioxide. This is accomplished by keeping the partial pressure of the oxygen at the reaction temperature lower than 10 16 atmospheres. In one embodiment the atmosphere consists of nitrogen and a small amount of oxygen in some form such as carbon monoxide. In other embodiments nitrogen may be replaced by hydrogen or an inert gas.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a fluid pressure operated motor or pump of the type having a gerotor displacement mechanism. Such devices normally have a separate valve member for directing pressurized fluid from the casing inlet to the expanding chambers of the gerotor and exhaust fluid from collapsing chambers to the casing outlet. In this invention there is no separate valve member and a unique valve passage arrangement is provided in a stationary casing port wherein a centrally located port is surrounded by a ring of ports. The centrally located port may be the inlet or outlet port and the ring of ports is the opposite thereof.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an air volume regulator assembly of the type used in the ducts of heating and cooling systems. A duct section is provided having walls on three sides thereof and a removable wall portion. A damper type regulator unit is mounted on the wall portion and is thereby easily removable for inspection and repair. A U-shape portal in the duct section is in spaced relation to the three walls and is in surrounding relation to the regulator unit. Sound absorbing material is between the portal and the three walls. In the illustrated embodiment of the invention the portal is attached to the removable wall portion.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an air conditioning system inlet assembly which has walls which form a chamber having an outlet opening. A pivotally mounted valve plate varies the size of the opening. The valve plate forms one lever arm of a fulcrumed lever and the second lever arm thereof is counterweighted. Weights on the second lever arm balance the biasing forces of pressurized air in the chamber which tend to move the valve plate in closing direction. An increase in the total volume of air supplied per unit time results in a larger valve opening to counter the effects of unpleasant drafts which would otherwise occur.
Abstract:
A method of drawing in the stator windings of an electric motor, in which strands from two coils are superimposed in some stator grooves and their end windings are separated by insulating foils. The coils are on pins extending between the grooves and the head portions of the coils are moved through the stator by axial forces applied at an end face, these forces also acting on the insulating foils. The coils, with insulating foils interposed are in two layers on the pins. The invention also provides an electric motor produced by such a method and apparatus for carrying out the method.
Abstract:
A direct-current converter, for isolating a measuring transducer from its power source, comprises a magnetic core with primary, secondary and sensor windings. Additionally an energizing winding is provided periodically to change the magnetic inductance of the core, by developing a magnetic field at right angles to that of the other three windings.
