    Abstract: The present invention relates to imidazole and/or its derivative as polyurethane or polyisocyanurate foam catalyst in the presence of Low Global Warming Potential (GWP) halogenated olefinic blowing agents, such as the hydrochlorofluoroolefin (HCFO) HCFO-1233zd. More particularly, the present invention relates to catalyst compositions comprising imidazole and/or its derivative. The present invention further relates to the stable pre-blend formulations and resulting polyurethane or polyisocyanurate foams. A method for stabilizing thermosetting foam blends comprises combining: (a) a polyisocyanate and, optionally, isocyanate compatible raw materials; and (b) a polyol pre-mix composition comprising a halogenated olefinic blowing agent, a polyol, a surfactant, and a catalyst, wherein the catalyst comprises substituted imidazole having C2 or greater substitutions at the N1 nitrogen and/or its derivative. The resultant polyurethane or polyisocyanurate foams have uniform cell structure with little or no foam collapse.

    Abstract: The invention relates to an aqueous fluoropolymer hybrid composition having superior weathering resistance while maintaining excellent mechanical properties in coatings, paints, caulks and adhesives. The composition is comprised of: a) a vinylidene fluoride polymer, such as KYNAR® polymers from Arkema, b) a first vinyl polymer immiscible with the vinylidene fluoride polymer and having a Tg of less than 0° C., and c) a second vinyl polymer of a different composition, also having a Tg of less than 0° C., and containing groups capable of crosslinking. The invention also relates to waterborne coatings or paints containing the aqueous fluoropolymer hybrid composition, and an article, object, or structure coated with the fluoropolymer hybrid composition on at least one surface, either in a factory or in the field, to confer protection and decorative properties. Free films made from the waterborne compositions of the invention have a dynamic mechanical analysis loss tangent, tan (δ), of greater than 0.22 at a temperature of 0° C.

    Abstract: A process for recovering (meth)acrylic acid includes distilling a mixture comprising (meth)acrylic acid in a finishing column at less than atmospheric pressure to produce a finishing column overhead stream and a finishing column bottoms stream. An overhead aspirating direct contact condenser system at least partially condenses the finishing column overhead stream to form a finishing column overhead condensate and an overhead non-condensables vent stream. A finishing column vapor-phase side draw may also be recovered. An aspirating direct contact condenser system may be used to at least partially condense the vapor-phase side draw.
